Question about Health Insurance co-pays...
My husband's company just switched their insurance over to GHI but it's not the same one that teachers get in the city -- I think it's a PPO instead of an HMO.
The ER co-pay says on his card that it's $1000!!
And he went to the ER twice in 24 hours! So that means we are going to be getting a $2,000 bill for the ER when it used to be $35 for his co-pay.
Has anyone ever heard of a co-pay being so expensive before???

Re: Question about Health Insurance co-pays...
I don't know --- it is what he is telling me it says on his card --- that when they switched everyone at his job was all upset about it. So I'm thinking if all of the employees were freaking about it then it has to be right....but then again I haven't looked at the paperwork myself -- I don't know where exactly he has it.
What really upsets me is that I've been trying to get him added to my insurance for months but NYC takes FOREVER to process paperwork...

did he get admitted? They usually wave the ER copay if he gets admitted.

yes -- he was admitted -- and since they sent him home yesterday without really doing anything and then had to go back and get admitted -- I'm hoping we can at least fight the 2nd co-pay.
The nurse just called me and they had to put him on a respirator. I'm freaking out.

As long as you are married and you have proof that you have insurance under the city of new york, then your husband is covered as of your date of employment. Call 65 Court street to speak with someone.
