question about interrogating small children
if a bus driver's actions are questionable. (tickling kids, nothing worse thank God, but still ! in this day and age!!) but it did raise many red flags and he lost his job.
is it ok for a principal to question students without notifying the parents first ?
a mom on the bus it happened on is NOT happy that her child was questioned without her there.
plus the top admins are not cooperating with concerned parents.

Re: question about interrogating small children
that is absolutely not ok IMO especially if the children are very young.....the parents should always be contacted first

Re: question about interrogating small children
I have to be honest, in my school the social worker or psychologist would have initially talked to the children to get a sense of what happened and if they thought that something inappropriate had happened then they would have told the principal and absolutely have called the parents.

Re: question about interrogating small children
thanks guys. this was my first reaction to the mom, before she even mentioned her opinion, and she immediately said THANK YOU! as if to say "i thought it was just me"
and from what she said, her daughter (thank God) thought nothing of what happened and still now doesnt realize anything happened. so she might have chosen to just approach it in her own way...
this bus driver was fired. or taken off the job immediately I wonder if they did that as a proactive measure? or if something else was known that we dont know...
thanks again for the feedback I appreciate it.

Re: question about interrogating small children
i don't think it's interrogation--it's just questioning. there's a difference. interrogation seems a little more drastic.
in my school the principal or psych would have spoken with the children first. then they would notify the parents if anything further needed to be done. why should they worry the parents before they know what is going on? they should have every side of the story.
i guess it depends on the subject matter as well. but in my school, the principal and asst principal always question students--why would they need parental permission?

It's the same in my school (elementary). We interview students to get their side of the story first and then inform the parents as appropriate.
