Question about introducing solid foods
Emerson is just over 4 months old and yesterday we started her on rice cereal for breakfast and lunch along with her regular bottle. She LOVED it!!! My question is now that she seems to like eating and she's doing good with the cereal so far (I know it's only been 2 days) how do you slowly introduce other foods and in what time frame? Do you add something new every week? Veggies or fruit first?.....does it even matter? I will check with my ped. but I was wondering how you girls did it with your DD. TIA!!

Re: Question about introducing solid foods
I did a week each with the rice, barley and oatmeal. Then I started on the orange veggies (carrots, sweet potatoes, squash), then green veggies, then I started the fruits after I finished all the veggies I wanted to try. I always did the same fruit or veggie for 3-4 days to make sure there was no reaction.

That sounds like a good plan. In the weeks where you started the veggies and fruits did you not give any cereal or were the fruit and veggies in addition to both the cereal and the bottle?

Re: Question about introducing solid foods
i gave DS oatmeal and then 4 days later gave green beans(hated it!) so i waited 4 days gave apple sauce and then went to the orange veggies. i waited 4 days in b/w. I still gave the oatmeal though as a seperate meal.

Re: Question about introducing solid foods
We started with 5 days of each rice, barley and oatmeal to make sure there were no allergic reations and then per my ped. we started fruit. Mixing 1/2 jar with cereal in the moring and the other 1/2 by itself for lunch with a bottle. He definetly likes the oatmeal the best out of all 3 cereals but sometime I mix oatmeal with barley or oatmeal with rice. The ped. said we will introduce veggies next.

Re: Question about introducing solid foods
Our ped said to go with the three cereals first... They should be on each one for 3 days in a row to make sure there isn't any allergy to it. After that he gave us a list of "okayed" fruits and veggies to try... same rule, three days in a row to rule out any allergies...

Re: Question about introducing solid foods
we started with rice, then moved to Oatmeal and just two weeks ago started on fruits and veggies...we started out doing a fruit for two days then a veggie for two days, until she had them all to make sure she didn't have any allergic reactions.
Now at almost 5ths old, she eats a fruit in the morning and a veggie at night.
