Question about moving fish tanks when u move
DH has a 100 gallon fish tank and we were wondering whether there are people you can hire who will move it for you. He is worried about the fish surviving the move bc you have to keep alot of the water so as not to shock the fish.

Re: Question about moving fish tanks when u move
we only have a 35 gallon tank, and we ended up moving it ourselves because we were so worried about them.....but im sure you can hire someone....i would call up some moving companies and see if they do this......or maybe ask at the pet store??

Re: Question about moving fish tanks when u move
I would talk to your fish store. They will work with you on storing them in their store for a week. I dont have my tank setup any more but when I did I was very friendly with the owner of my fish/pets store and I had brought up the subject and he had offered to store them in a tank of his. As far as moving the tank we moved it our self and yes it was heavy. I have a 90 gallon tank

Re: Question about moving fish tanks when u move
I agree with the other posters...definitely speak to someone at the fish store. They probably have services that would do this for you. We only have a 20 gallon, so we were able to move it ourselves...I can't imagine moving a 100 gallon tank!

Re: Question about moving fish tanks when u move
My DH had 3 tanks to move, and one was a 75Gal. Fish are his thing...and we had a moving company move the tanks. He collected all the fish and put them in baggies he got at the fish store, and put the baggies in coolers so he can transport them. They had to live in the baggies for 2 or 3 days until the tanks were moved to the house and he can re-set the tanks up. I believe all the fish survived.
If you want, I can have him FM you explaining exactly what he did.

Re: Question about moving fish tanks when u move
My husband has moved his tanks several times. He just takes the fish out, puts them in a bucket with water from the tank, then takes the majority of the water out of the tank and we move it. I don't think there have been a lot of lost fish... You want to make sure you take a lot of the water out of the tank before moving it though, because it can crack if you don't.

Re: Question about moving fish tanks when u move
we had a short distance move (15 minutes away), but we saved about 15 gallons of our 72 gallon tank in big wine jugs (jugs used to make wine, not ones you buy at the store)....but even if you saved less water....just save enough that the fish can live in and once your tank is moved, add the saved water & fish, some new water, and then add a bucket or two of new water every couple of days to fill it back up (so as not to shock the fish with too much new water).
Don't know if this will work for you, but thats what we did!
eta: we didn't lose any fish
