Question about passports
Does anyone know if you can still travel with a passport in your maiden name and your marriage cert. if you are married for 3.5 years?
I think my SIL will need to get a new one in her married name but not sure and the website is very specific.

Re: Question about passports
I believe with the new guidelines your passport needs to be in your married name and they will not accept the marriage certificate along with it.

Re: Question about passports
why not just book the trip in the name that is on the passport ? i would think that is easiest. they only need the passport as a proof of identity and citiznship...no other identification is necessary

Has this changed since the new guidelines came out because I am possibly going to the Bahamas in Dec and if I dont' have to get a new passport I would prefer not to. Does anyone know if you can still travel under your maiden name as long as you book it under your maiden name? TIA

I cannot see any reason why you couldn't travel under your maiden name if you have documentation of it. My TA told me my passport and my license had to match.
How are they gonna know you're married anyway?

yes, that is what i was going to say. you only need the passport. as long as your passport matches your boarding pass, it's fine.

I agree. I never changed my name and my maiden name is my last name and I have never been asked for my license. When DH and I travel together and go through immigration in our countries (Me- US, DH- Australia) we never get asked why we do not have the same name. We go through as citizens of each country as a family even though he is not a citizen and I am not a citizen of both countries.
Just book the tickets under your maiden name.

Your passport and license do not have to match, your travel agent is incorrect (I am also a travel agent). When you travel with your passport, you never have to show your licence. The airline ticket (or cruise ticket) must have the name that is on the passport.

Maybe that was it and I am confused.... YES, she asked me what my passport had and she said that it should be the same as my liccense....that's where I made the connection, my bad!

They do NOT have to match. Think of all the people that travel internationally (children, those that don't drive, etc.) that don't have licenses. They don't even ask for your license, only your passport. You can give it for additional ID, but it is not necessary and they don't ask for it.
