Question about pre-natal vitamins

We plan on TTC in January/February. I've been a slacker with going to the OBGYN and now the earliest appointment is Jan 10. Are there vitamins I can buy over the counter that are just as good? This may be a dumb question but I am clueless!!!!

Re: Question about pre-natal vitamins

my RE had me get the prescription from him b/c of the amount of folic acid. TTC you have to have a certain level of folic acid in your system for at least a month before getting PG b/c it lessens the chance of certain birth defects. HTH!

Re: Question about pre-natal vitamins

A lot of people get the Target brand and seem to be fine with that! Why don't you call the OB and tell them your situation and ask if they would prescribe them to you!

Re: Question about pre-natal vitamins

I took the Target Brand while TTC and actually went back to them since I've been pg since all of the samples the dr gave me to try made me very nauseous. My dr said it was fine.

Re: Question about pre-natal vitamins

Sure! The only downside is that OTC vitamins aren't covered on insurance but they are basically the same as the prescription ones. I take 'Rainbow Light' OTC prenatal vitamins. They are great except they are a bit big! I recommend them anyway! Chat Icon

Edit: This is what the bottle looks like. I bought them at CVS and I think they were about $14 for 50 tablets. HTH

I use the target brand. You can purchase them over the counter. We got married on September 29. Medical Insurance does not start for me until January 2008.
