Question about RE's...

Hi Ladies,

My husband and I have been TTC for 14 months. I had my first iui on 3/17/14 by my obgyn and I just noticed i'm spotting. Looks like I might be out this month.

Time to find myself an RE. Would it be better to find one in NYC (where I work) or in Suffolk (at home)? Do you need to go in a lot? Does anyone have any recommendations for NYC or Stonybrook area?

Thanks so much!!!

Re: Question about RE's...

Personally...I choose an RE that was close to my job. Monitoring is usually done in the mornings. There are frequent appointments for blood and sonos on medicated cycles. I am able to get into the RE at 7am and get to work by 8am.

I go to RSofNY in Stony Brook and I love love love them. Much better than their Mineola office. I would not go to the Mineola office from what everyone says about them, however, the nurses on the IVF side are fantastic. LIIVF has an office in Stony Brook. NSUH has an office in Smithtown.

I'm not familiar with whats out west, but I believe Braverman, SIRM, and RMA are further west...nassau/nyc.

Good Luck!!!

ETA...There are a lot of appointments in the beginning like pp said. I took off for them...hsg, endometrial biopsy, water sono... They will do baseline bloodwork and sono. When you start cycling and monitoring you go in a couple times for IUIs and almost daily for IVF towards the end.

Question about RE's...

For my IVF, I had to go in for a baseline sono, mock transfer and bloodwork. I was able to schedule my class for the meds for the same day. Once I started the meds, I had to go in for 4 monitoring appointments. Then I had the retrieval and then the transfer.

If you haven't already had them done, the RE may also want you to have an hsg to make sure your tubes are clear and a water sonogram to make sure that you don't have any fibroids or other uterine problems.

Good luck!

I chose an RE closer to my office so that I can get to work on time. It's less convenient on weekends, but it was more important for me to get to work on time than to have free time on the weekend.

I went to RMA NY and highly recommend them. We will return to them for DC#2.

Re: Question about RE's...

I chose one closer to work - when I first went to mine, I was working in Brooklyn, and they're located in Brooklyn, so after I was done I went straight to work. A lot easier. I went to Kofinas Fertility in Park Slope. There's tons of appointments as others have said, so you want to be in a location that's most convenient. A lot of the monitoring hours for me were early in the morning and they weren't open on weekends, so being closer to work was a lot easier.

Thanks so much, I'll look into them. If i can go in at 7 and get on a train after that wouldn't be so bad! I've already had a water sono and hsg so at least that's out of the way!

This. RMA's hours are pretty awesome. From what I remember it was 6:45AM-8:30AM. I work downtown and I was always on time.

I later switched to SIRM for other reasons and their monitoring hours aren't as nice - but they also weren't as frequest as RMA's. I only had to be monitored 3 times during my last IVF cycle and I usually was able to get a lunch time appt.

As far as monitoring goes, it varies person to person. I remember with IUI's at RMA I had to go in 2-3 times per cycle. For IVF they had me go in A LOT, maybe 6 times?

Re: Question about RE's...

I went in the city when I worked. It was so easy. Took the lirr in super early and got to monitoring right when they opened. I was always in and out and had plenty of time for a nice sit down breakfast before work. I was never stressed about making it to work on time.

The weekends I drove in, parked right in front. No traffic driving in and out.

I also loved my dr and the practice.

Question about RE's...

I would chose one closer to work since you will most likely have quite a few early morning monitoring appointments.

After two failed cycles with another clinic, we switched to RMA on Madison Ave in NYC and were pleased with our care.

Re: Question about RE's...

I agree with everyone else definitely go to a place that's more convenient with your job. I had to switch offices to be closer to my job, same practice just different office. I go to LI IVF and they have an office in stony brook their monitoring is from 6:30am- 8am. Good luck!

Re: Question about RE's...

I lived and worked in the city while doing IVF so no help there - but I will say that I loved, loved, loved SIRM. I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Wang and I know my cousin just got pregnant with Dr. Tortoriello. I had a lot of consults and was most impressed with this office.

Question about RE's...

I went to Dr Zapantis. A couple of miles from home, and a couple of miles from work. His monitoring hours started at 615 AM

Re: Question about RE's...

I went to a RE convenient to my job and home and they were terrible. Wasted a year with them. I'm now traveling to NYC for SIRM and I love them. Totally convenient? Not really but with my condition, I have to go to the Drs who have experience with DOR and endo. I'm done wasting time.

Same here. Went to same RE as above. Wasted over a year with them and it happened to be very convenient for work.

I'm now between garden city and NYC. I'm with RMA and could not be happier. My main dr is in westchester so I'm traveling between 3 different places. Worth every inconvenience if it means a chance of having a baby.
