question about SA
DH had the SA done last week and I just got the results. Turns out most of his numbers are in the norml range, but two are low. His total motile count ws only 38.9 (with 40million being normal) and his WHO Morphology was at 24% (should be 30% or higher.) He needs to go back in and have another SA so they can compare numbers and see what the next step is. Needless to say, he wasn't too happy to hear this. In fact he said he doesn't want to go. I know in the end he will, but it's just frustrating. I guess he's more bothered by this than I thought. Anyone's DH had similar number issues? If so, what was the final decision/course of action. The Dr. did say that if I need to go to IUIs that DH's numbers are perfectly fine for that.

Re: question about SA
My DH's motility was around 38%. My GYN told me that this # was horrible and she was "done with me" so I needed to go to an RE right away bc that was my only hope.....
Talk about freaking someone out!
I tried to play it down to Dh so he didn't freak out.
When we got to the RE, she didn't understand why we were there at first. She said that a lot of dr's don't realize that slightly low #'s don't necessarily = a real problem.
I'm not sure if u have been to an RE or other type of specialist yet. Tell your DH not to have a heart attack over these #'s......they're not super low.
A 2nd S.A. may = #'s that are a little higher.

Re: question about SA
I don't know about morphology..but the count can be effected by lots of things...and goes up and down - diet, exercise, vitamins, supplements, etc.
DH's count was a little low, on the low end of the normal scale - a change in some supplements and everything was normal.
Also, if he was sick or on anti-biotics, this can effect the count also.
Good luck!

He was on medication for kidney stones that lowers male ferility, but that was well over a month ago and "should" have only lasted in his sytem for a couple of days. I hope that was all it is and the next results will be better.

Thank God the nurse practitioner was great, He said that yes the numbers were low, but not significantly enough to be in panic mode yet- however, I know that DH is really worried. We have not been to a fertility specialist yet, but depending on the next results, that may be the next step. I know that they will fax these results to my OB and then fax the next ones too. I will wiat until the second results before taking any kind of action. I know the NP said that if the second results were also low, then we would be setting up a meeting with the Dr. there.

Re: question about SA
My DH's SA changed with the amount of stress he was under. 1st time it was bad, low morph and the 2nd time it was totally fine. Tell him not to worry too much. I'm surprised they are making him do it again though. This is all these guys have to do, and they are such babies over it. I'll trade...LOL...
