Question about tax grievance...

Hi,
If My Nassau property lists a house value at $630 but it was purchased for $595, do you think that's enough of a difference to grieve the taxes?

Thanks so much.

Re: Question about tax grievance...

I don't think My Nassau Property is accurate.

That said, I had my taxes reassessed (I'm in Suffolk) based on what my neighbor's are paying in taxes (not home prices/values) - which was $1200-2k LESS than me.

In the end, my taxes were lowered by ~$2k.

I had to present my case to the Town - I put together a packet of surrounding houses on my block - their property size, taxes, etc - with pictures and a letter pleading my cause.

Thanks! How did you find out what they are paying in taxes? Did you just ask them?

Re: Question about tax grievance...

Being that I wound up purchasing the house right next door to the one I had been renting from for 6 years......and looking for 16 months....I had the comps/RE listings. It was quite convenient.

But I believe this is all public information and with a little legwork, you could get it all from the Town.

Re: Question about tax grievance...

i am going to grieve my taxes because our purchase price was also a lot less than the assessed value on my nassau property. I called and asked and they said that I could file to grieve them and i would probably win. a while back i posted the link to the website to grieve.... You can file after Jan 2nd.....
