Question about washing baby's things...
I'm starting to wash some linens and clothes. I bought Baby All so that should be ok. Do you know if I should or shouldn't use fabric softener? I thought I read somewhere that you shouldn't - plus I've never seen a baby fabric softener.
Thanks!

Re: Question about washing baby's things...
you dont use fabric softener, somethings have a fire retardant coating on them and the fabric softener takes that off.

Re: Question about washing baby's things...
just stick to the baby all. it has no chemicals in it too which is good so you dont have to worry about an allergic reaction that the baby might get from a fabric softener.

Re: Question about washing baby's things...
I just used Dreft. No fabric sofenter...so I have been told. I know it was weird for me not to use Fabric softener, but I heard it was to harsh for babies.

Re: Question about washing baby's things...
Some of my friends who are parents recommended Dreft. The Baby All sounds like the same type of thing. My friend also gave me a great idea. She said when you wash the little socks, booties, etc., place them in a lingere bag. That way the little socks won't get stuck in the filter of the dryer.

Re: Question about washing baby's things...
Honestly, I didn't bother spending more money on the "baby" detergents, but I would wash things separately because I avoided the fabric softener [for the flame retardant purpose] and personally can't stand my clothes to NOT have fabric softener in them. I used the same detergent I used on our clothes and she never had a problem with skin reactions or anything. I think you have to evaluate you and your DH/SO as far as your skin tendencies go...if either of you has sensitive skin tendencies, you should be more cautious.

Re: Question about washing baby's things...
Also babys skin is so sensitive, they can develop allergies to regular detergent and or fabric softner.
everything I have ever read says spend the extra money on Dreft or baby all..its worth it.

Thanks!
Only if you use no-dye and unscented. My DS has very sensitive skin and breaks out if I use anything else.

Re: Question about washing baby's things...
Thanks ladies
Baby All is very inexpensive (unlike Dreft) I got an 80 load bottle for $4 - same size dreft was over $10.
I'll skip the fabric softener!!!

Re: Question about washing baby's things...
I thought fabric softener does something to make the baby clothes less fire retardant?

Re: Question about washing baby's things...
I got the Costco brand detergent, which I will be usign in December. It seems to me that they are all the same and Dreft seems expensive.

same here. I started with no fabric sheets and then realized everything was coming out to stiff. The whole flame retardant thing didn't bother me.....
