Question and tips for going on a cruise with a 1 year old...
We are going on a cruise next year where DS will be 1 years old.
Any tips on what to bring and not bring?
How the heck do you pack the diapers and the jars of food...Milk shoudn't be a problem as i'm sure they'll have it on the ship. I'm sure by then he'll be off the freaking formula. We are going in July and he turns 1 in June...

Re: Question and tips for going on a cruise with a 1 year old...
My SIL & BIL went on a cruise in April & their son was 9 months. She packed an entire suitcase of just diapers & food. Luckily enough he was eating some "regular" foods, so it wasn't so bad. It did help that they left out of NY

Re: Question and tips for going on a cruise with a 1 year old...
I took my son on a cruise in July, he was 16 months then. I packed a suitcase with just bottles and cups, a large bag of diapers and a container of wipes. He was totally on table food so that wasnt a problem, but I did bring some of his favorite snacks (cereal bars, cereal, puffs etc). I also brought a bottle of juice, since I only give my son 2 oz of juice to 6oz of water, the bottle lasted pretty much all week. Milk was supplied by the ship. I kept the juice cold by keeping it in the ice bucket and the room steward made sure I had fresh ice 3x a day.
I also made sure I packed medicines like tylenol, dimetap and benedryl which my dr said is great if he got seasick.

So what about packing their clothes? Was that a separate suitcase?
What about Strollers??? Does it have to be an umbrella stroller? Or can I bring my regular stroller which reclines?
I've been on cruises so you'd think I would have noticed the kind of strollers people had on the ship...

Re: Question and tips for going on a cruise with a 1 year old...
We took my daughter on the Royal Caribbean Explorer or Voyegar of the Seas when she was one. I had my Combi stroller which folded up nicely in our stateroom and fit with no problem down the halls and around the boat. Try to bring a small stroller that does fold up nice & small because you don't have alot of room to move around your stateroom.
Call the cruise company (or your travel agency) and request a pack n play for your room.
I brought enough bottles for 3 days and a small dish soap bottle and bottle brush and washed them at night in my bathroom sink (saved on space)
I also brought all the baby food jars/diapers/formula in her own suitcase (I think a duffel bag) Since we flew from NY to Florida, I bought it all down there at a supermarket near the hotel so I wouldn't have to worry about breakage on the plane. I think I also carried that bag on board the boat for the same reason. Wouldn't you know it, she decided that cruise food was better and barely touched the jars
I think the only problem we had was they wouldn't let the stroller in the shows (safety reasons) and they wouldn't let her in the pool either.

We are leaving from NY thank god. I didn't want to fly anywhere.
This is the stroller that we have. Do you think it will be a problem?

The ship we are going on is Norwegian Dawn which has a kiddie pool. Do you think he'll be able to go in there?

Re: Question and tips for going on a cruise with a 1 year old...
Do not count on your son being able to go in the pool. Most (if not all) cruise lines do not allow non-toilet trained children into their pools for safety reasons.
A great resource for cruising with kids is Cruise Critic . They have boards dedicated to family cruising.
ETA: I looked on cruise critic, but couldn't find anything specific about the Dawn - just a general policy about no swim diapers allowed. Call your travel agent and double check! A lot of people on those boards recommend bringing a small blow-up pool if your little one isn't allowed in the other ones.
Hope that helps!

Clothes....need lots of them. I packed his suitcase '(the one with the diapers and juices), I also had clothes in my suitcase and DH's. I brought my regular stoller with us (Aria) and had no problems whatsoever. We folded it up and stored it under the bed. Being your leaving from NY its going to be a lot easier than having to lug all the stuff on the plane.

Is the picture of that stroller that I posted fine? Do you see fitting through the doors? We have a mini suite...

We brought a Peg Perego Aria on our cruise and it was fine. Yours looks similar in size.
Ditto what everyone else said about the swimming. The CDC does not allow non potty trained children in the pools.
ETA: You may want to check with your travel agent if the kiddie pool is a "splash" pool that cycles water. If it is then he'll be allowed in but all it really is, is a fountain of water coming out in contained area. You aren't swimming by any means.
