question (especially for teachers of younger grades)
i'm a speech therapist at an elementary school. So i'm used to only seeing kids 2 or 3 in a group, my biggest group is 4 kids. BUT this year i've been going into a self contained special ed classroom with 9 kids in it once a week to do a speech lesson with the class. They've been great and we've been having a lot of fun... but the last couple weeks they've just been SOO loud/talkative! they definitely know its the end of the school year! I see them right after recess, which i think is a big part of why they've been like this... so what do you do to sort of get your kids back on track and ready to focus after recess? Maybe a cute little rhyme or just something you do to get them in "class" mindset again. Thanks for any help!

I know this probably won't help you, but I either have DEAR time or do a read aloud....just so they can unwind, get drinks, and relax for a few minutes.

Re: question (especially for teachers of younger grades)
I'm special area and get classes after PE a lot. I have them do square breathing. I draw a square on the board. draw a vertical line up = breathe in 4 sec; horizontal line right = hold 4 sec; vertical line down = breathe out 4 sec; horizontal line left = hold 4 sec. after awhile they close their eyes and picture the square in their mind.
at first, they will be a little silly...but after awhile they get into it.
If they come in really red and rowdy, I can usually tell them to do their square breathing while we wait for the stragglers at the water fountain.
