Yes, very weird. I kept thinking all day that I was babysitting and that her real mom was gonna come pick her up later that day. It takes a little while to really grasp the concept that they are yours forever.

Re: Question for all you already-mommies!
Not as weird as I thought it would be, but not what I expected. My DD was born in September and came home on a Sunday. My DH and I fully expected that we would put her in her bouncy seat and we'd all watch football together...yeah, no The first night was surreal...it was like should we put her to sleep now, is that what happens? Should we go to sleep at like 8pm? Do we need to be prepared to wake up all night long? In the end, I don't think we really got a lot of sleep!
A friend of mine who had her 3rd the year that DD was born said that you'll bring the baby home, put her infant carrier on the coffee table and look at one another and say, "Now what?" That pretty much sums it up!
ETA...Under no circumstances should you ever watch Bringing Home Baby on TLC!!! Consider yourself warned!!!

Re: Question for all you already-mommies!
Did any one watch "Bringing Home Baby" today on TLC.... the mom had the highest pitch voice I ever herd.. like she sucked helium.. poor hubby. I felt like I had an alarm clock that goes off every 2-3 hrs when (still) brought Reese home....

Dd # 1 YES! I was a basket case. A total bunch of nerves. I so wish I wasn't. But I got over it.
DD # 2 I was calm cool and collected! It felt so right to bring her home.

Re: Question for all you already-mommies!
I was an emotional mess, we brought our dd home on a friday and, honestly, I just stared at her for hours thinking "she is mine? what do I do now?"
the next day, my mil came over and I took a 5 hour nap

Weird, exciting and very emotionally hard. A lot of adjustments to deal with, but all worth it and great! good luck.

Re: Question for all you already-mommies!
It was really weird and exciting at the same time. I was so happy to be leaving the hospital with my DH and DD, but were now all by ourselves so of course we were nervous. I remember when we first entered the house, it was so amazing. We walked our DS around the house and showed him all his things. One thing that will always stay in my mind is that first day home our DS was laying in the bassinet of his Pack N' Play and DH was standing over him crying and saying how wonderful it was to have him. My DH never cries so it was just so beautiful.

Re: Question for all you already-mommies!
So hard to explain...driving home in the car I was sitting next to her & couldn't comprehend she was ours.
Then we got home & it was fine for the first hour & then all hell broke loose. She was crying, the neighbor was ringing the bell, I was trying to nurse (unsuccessfully), the phone wouldn't stop ringing; we tried to change her...it was all surreal.
Then I just lost it. I had her in my arms & was sitting in my glider w/ her, tears sliding down my face...I just felt so overwhelmed & didn't think I could do this....but I did....we all do.
It helps too that the first few days they sleep most of the time (except at night of course).
It's so hard, but it gets better. By the 2nd or 3rd week you're already a pro w/ changing & handling her.

Re: Question for all you already-mommies!
It was wonderful. I was ready to go home. I slept with DD close to me and we rested and fed all day. It felt natural. Besides being annoyed with my ILs it could have not have been better.

Re: Question for all you already-mommies!
The 1st day home was fine. The 1st night home was hard. I was anxious when it got dark and had this creepy-crawly feeling. I was having trouble nursing and was an emotional mess over it.

I agree, it was great! My DS is a big sleeper, so basically we got home and he slept, then ate, then slept, etc.
It was an amazing feeling to be home with my son, felt perfect.

Re: Question for all you already-mommies!
When our first DD was born, we weren't married yet & I lived with my mom. DH & I kept busy that whole day with visits to the grandparents & my best friend. When I got home that night & she fell asleep I remember putting her into the bassinet & thinking "Ok... what do I do now?!" It felt weird, but it also felt right. It's a hard feeling to explain.
