Re: question for breast feeding ladies
With how strict they are about returns, etc. I would wait to buy the pump and accessories until you decide if BFing and pumping are right for you...I bought my Medela PIS about a month after dd was born...

I decided to wait to buy it. I want to make sure she is going to latch on before I invest. I will probably rent from the hospital before buying one.

Re: question for breast feeding ladies
It is my intention to bf, but if it doesnt work, then I have no problem formula feeding. I plan to wait to purchase anything bf related until I know I am definitely doing it!

I registered for the Medela Pump In Style bad and a few accessories. No one got it for me so I was waiting until right before DS is born or right after and then I'll get it myself. XOXOXO BOTB

Re: question for breast feeding ladies
Medela pump in style...that will come with everything you need to get started. The only thing you may need extra is freezer/fridge storage containers or bags.
They will have BM storage supplies in the hospital. STEAL as many of these little plastic medela storage bottles as you can (picture below) and the nipples to match (they give you these to pump into and then feed to baby if you pump while there). These medela plastic storage containers sold at BRU are expensive but they're the best and if your lucky you can get lots of them at the hospital. I would just walk by the nurses station and ask for them over and over again They have the nipples too, already sterlized that screw right on and are the easiest best thing ever!! You can freeze, use, wash & reuse the bottles but not the nipples.

Re: question for breast feeding ladies
I put no nursing stuff on my registry for two reasons: 1. No one likes to buy you Nursing stuff!! 2. They are so strict with their return policy, I want to see how Breast feeding works out for me. I figured I could just have DH or someone else run out and buy me the pump and accessories after the baby arrives if I need it.

ITA. I rented a machine from a LC for a month first to make sure I could BF/pump. I then put a pump on my registry with the hopes of getting the comletion discount for it, but ended up buying one from a lovely LIF mom!

Re: question for breast feeding ladies
I did not buy the pump until I was BFing for 4+ weeks. I wanted to make sure it was working out. I did have a little manual one temporarily.
I bought the Medella Pump in Style Advanced one. It's a great pump.
I would not buy it right away. Either wait or rent one first.

Re: question for breast feeding ladies
I am renting a pump for the first month to make sure I am able to pump. Pumping has been an issue in my family; no one has trouble BFing, but for some reason no one has been able to pump.
If I am lucky and can pump we'll get the medela.

Re: question for breast feeding ladies
I say put the pump on your registry. If someone buys it, great, but dont open it until you absolutely need it...EBF at first. Try pumping w/the hospital pump right after you give birth and up until you leave and collect your colustrum (it will only be like 2 droplets each time probably, lol) and give it to baby!!! You will know if you need the pump a few days after your milk comes in (which is usually 72hrs after that baby pops out). If someone doesn't buy it, I'd say try renting one first, then buy one for yourself if & when you need it. Thats all!!! BRU should def. take back an UNOPENED pump.
I put mine on the registry and got lucky, someone close to me bought it. I was sooooooooooooooo happy I didn't have to buy that thing myself so you never know!!!
