Question for Jewish people about keeping Kosher...

I need to bring something to a Shiva. I am not sure what I am going to get yet, but I want to make sure it is Kosher. Do I only have to worry about this issue if meat or dairy is involved? In other words, if I bring something like nuts, chocolate, or fruit, there is no such thing as a Kosher version of those items, right?

Usually it will have a K or a U or a P on the label if it is kosher. It really depends on how religious the people are...
