question for Queens girls

Does anyone have a recommendation for where I can go for a haircut and highlights, especially in the Forest Hills area? I want to get it done before I leave for Arizona in two weeks so that I can get used to the color before I start my internship. I know there are so many salons on Queens Blvd and Austin Street, but really want a reccommendation.

ETA: please let me know how much these places cost, if you know. Thanks!

Re: question for Queens girls

My friend uses In the Mixx (upstairs, by Sgt. Garcia's) and has been using them for years. She even had them do her hair for her wedding.

I also know people who have used M Salon (Michichi's (sp Chat Icon)), which at the other end of Austin, across from Ralph's (and on my corner Chat Icon).

I can't personally recommend any though because I still go back to New Hyde Park for mine.

Re: question for Queens girls

I have gone to Igal at John Christie's Salon. It's right next to the LIRR train station on the cobblestones street. He's a little expensive but he's very good. He's from Isreal orginally - was here for a bit, went back to Isreal met his wife and now lives in NY again and has a new baby. Oh way TMI, I know, but he's such a sweet man.

I have been to Salon Micciche on Austin & Ascan Ave. Patty has cut my hair a few times and I liked it a lot. My friend gets her hair colored their and it looks great.

The # is 718-544-1246

The only annoying thing is they do not take credit cards.

I paid $48 for Patty with long hair - mid back length (I am not sure if they price by length or stylist).

I don't know about color prices though.

They're sort of high, IMO at least.

Yeah, that's what I thought. I've passed it before and it looks like a great salon, but I think it's going to be a bit much for me.

I haven't had my hair cut in a year. When I did get it cut, I just walked in somewhere inexpensive on Queens blvd and asked them to chop it off. I've grown it out since. Now I just want to have it trimmed, angled and highlighted, without spending a fortune.

IMO the color is more important than the cut, assuming you're not making a drastic change. What about just doing supercuts for the cut so that's cheap and then going to Micchiche for the color?

Re: question for Queens girls

That's not a bad idea. I've done supercuts before for a trim. I would like to find a salon and a stylist to go to regularly though.

Check out In the Mixx then. I'm not positive how much they are but I know they're cheaper than Micchiche and they do a great job on my friend's hair.

Oh! God, I totally forgot! There's ANOTHER please - Le Arte (I *think*) - right across from Micchiche. The guy's name is Eli and he's straight from Israel. So funny, very sweet. I get my eyebrows threaded there (the woman is amazing!). Anyway, he's great and again, although I haven't actually gotten my haircut or highlights done there, I've seen a lot of people who have and they all look good coming out.

My question is now pointless...I just spoke to my mom and she said that if I come to Staten Island and have her girl do it (who I've been to for cuts before), she'll treat me! Chat Icon
