Question for SAHM .... and BTDT moms ....
what age do you think you will be putting your DC into some sort of outside care ie daycare , montisory before they start pre k ??
ive heard alot of people saying i should already be thinking about leaving my DS soon to prevent him becoming too attached to me
:
i understand that he needs to be socialized beacause he s an only child right now and he needs to be with other kids his age (he is only 1 next week ) but i am inrolled in a mummy and me class and Gymboree for that reason
so im just curious as to what all you other mommies are doing??

I think at 1 he is getting enough socialization through the things you have him involved in. I plan on doing the same next spring. I also want to enroll DS in soccer tots (which is the first sport they can play) around 18 months I think they can start.

Re: Question for SAHM .... and BTDT moms ....
My plan is this summer she will be about 3 months shy of 3 years old. When she was 1 we started going to the YMCA and she would go to the daycare there for about and hour and a half. My mom has watched DD while I work PT though. She comes to our house though. DD did go through a really attached phase but she grew out of it. I think keeping him home as long as you want is just fine.

I think you are definitely socializing him with the Gymboree and Mommy & Me class! I wouldn't worry about it! Maybe get a babysitter ever so often so you and hubby can go out, even if it's for an hour, so he can get used to you not being there.

Re: Question for SAHM .... and BTDT moms ....
I'll be putting DD in a morning pre school program, church based next fall since she's turning 2 in Jan. Cut off down here is Sept 1st.
2 mornings probably.... she does go into childwatch at the Y when I go work out and I was doing Mothers morning out there, but we're not morning people, so she only got 2 1/2 hrs in instead of 4
ETA: I also have other people watch them here and there which helps.

Re: Question for SAHM .... and BTDT moms ....
my DD started preschool at a montessori this year (she is 2) she goes from 9-12 MWF but I think I am upping it to M-F because she loves it so much.
I do have to say it was a TOUGH adjustment for her, but once she got used to it, it worked out great.
Prior to this I have done classes with her (music, gym, etc...) and we have made plenty of friends that I always have playdates with so she was exposed to other children.

Re: Question for SAHM .... and BTDT moms ....
We enrolled Sarah in a nursery school program this past September when she was 2.5 years old. She had severe stranger anxiety and it has helped a lot. At stores she will tell the cashier her name, that Andy is her little brother and I am her Mommy. She used to cry if they said Hi to her.
After seeing how much fun she is having at school, we've decided that my son will be going to camp with her this summer at the same nursery school and then they'll both go 3 days a week next year. He will be 2 in late June.

Re: Question for SAHM .... and BTDT moms ....
Katherine started going to "school" this September one day a week for 2 hours--she had just turned 2 that month. Honestly, it was more for me than for her...I need a couple of hours, KWIM? We also go to Just Wee Two on Thursdays together and she goes to my cousin's house 1 day a week. Next Sept, when she'll be turning 3, she'll go to nursery school which will be 3 days a week/3 hours day.
Honestly, he's only 1--I think what you're already doing is great.

I would like to put my 2yr old in something around 3 but I want him to be potty trained first.

Re: Question for SAHM .... and BTDT moms ....
My son was home with me until he was 3-1/2 and then he started prechool this year. He goes 3x a week for 3 hours each time. He's doing wonderful and loves it and had no problems separating from me.

Re: Question for SAHM .... and BTDT moms ....
as of right now, my answer would be not till kindergarden!
I know come ages 3 and 4, I will probably change, but he seems to be the target for the mean kids in the room.
He has 2 little nice friends, Skylar and Gavin. I am fine with that group for now. Everytime we venture out he always gets his a$$ kicked. He thinks they want to play with him and it goes bad really quick. He knows right from wrong and looks at me so sadly like "why did that kid do that"

Re: Question for SAHM .... and BTDT moms ....
I am putting DD in a morning program, MWF 9:15-12 starting in less than 2 weeks, she will be just shy of 22 months and I am very nervous for her adjustment period but I think it will be great for her...
