Question For Teachers

In the NYC school's Universal Pre-Kindergarten is public therefore teacher's are paid the same salary as any other teacher.

Does any know if the few Pre-Kindergarten programs that are on Long Island housed in the PUBLIC schools pay their teachers the same salary as any other or is it seperate and much less in pay?

Thanks

Re: Question For Teachers

I know in my Nassau district, the PreK is grant funded, the teacher is not on the same pay scale as the other teachers, and does not receive medical benefits.

Re: Question For Teachers

Depends on the district..... the city has budgeted for universal Pre-K... not every district on LI has.... the Pre-K program in my district is available to parents in the district and it housed in the administration building (district property), but they (parents in the community and teachers in the district with kids) pay to send their children, so it's not public in that regard. i cannot speak of the teachers' salaries or benefits, i would say they are not the same as the teachers in the public schools. I would say they are lower.

there are even a few districts on LI without full-day kindergarten programs, so i would say you would be hard pressed to find a universal pre-k program... but they could be out there. i just don't know of any.

In my town, in Suffolk county, the teachers are not anywhere near the pay scale of the teachers in the district.
