Question for the Moms regarding a nurse...
Hi everyone. I normally post on the pregnancy board but I was hoping the parenting board could help me with this situation. Looking forward to joining you guys officially in a few months! Although I didn't ask for one, my parents have offered to get me a nurse for after I give birth to my DS for a week or so. I'm due February 12th and this is my first child. I was going to look into a childcare prep class prior to my due date. I'll be honest, I really don't feel comfortable having a total stranger in my house for over a week. We live in a tiny cape with one bathroom and minimal space. We also have a dog that is probably going to be going through a major adjustment period with the new baby, people over, etc. I know the nurse is supposed to be there to help, but I feel like this person will just make me more overwhelmed. I'm also afraid that I will get someone who is an absolute nightmare and that I just don't mesh with. I think it's a lot of money for my parents to spend and if they want to contribute, I would rather them contribute elsewhere. Did anyone use a nurse in their home and did they feel it was beneficial? Am I making a mistake by not having a nurse come in? TIA!

Are you planning to breastfeed or formula feed? If you are formula feeding, having a night nurse would be very very helpful. If you are breastfeeding I'm not sure it would be worth the lose of space since you'll be up every few hours anyway.

I'm pretty sure I'm formula feeding.

Re: Question for the Moms regarding a nurse...
I had a nurse in a one bedroom apartment. She was in the living room which was divided into a baby's room. I think it was a great decision. having someone teach you and help you at night is a great thing if you can do it. This is my opinion at least. A cape is small buat there are at least 3 bedrooms so it willl not be so bad.

If you dont feel comfortable with the idea now then I you will feel more uncomfortable when the baby comes and that is added stress to you that you do not need. I did not have a nurse and I really didn't think I needed one. DH was home for about 2 weeks and my mom would come by frequently. Another thing is maybe wait until you are home with the baby and if you feel overwelmed maybe get the nurse or instead of the nurse get a cleaning lady. I would have loved the cleaning lady because I did not clean for the first month (my mom did clean once for me) so maybe that could be another option for you.
