Question for the stay at home moms....
I return to work in July - but would love to be a stay at home mom and have more kids soon.
What are some of the things that you have given up/ or altered to save money to make this happen if any?

Vacations are out of the question right now - we went on a cruise prior to Julia's arrival - so we don't plan to take any "big" vacation anytime soon - except going to the park/beach - somewhere local.

Nothing really changed, we just don't go out to dinner as often as we did, I cook more now--lol

Re: Question for the stay at home moms....
We've cut back our spending, but mostly b/c of our lives changing rather than me staying home. We used to go out to dinner every weekend - now it's not even once a month, I used to go to Starbuck's everyday, now I make my coffee at home, those types of things.
One thing we don't do is vacations....we take smaller trips here and there, but we couldn't justify a "splurge" vacation or anything like that.

Re: Question for the stay at home moms....
I don't remember the thread but I think Shana started it. It had a lot of money saving, budgeting tips. Shana is really good at that. I on the other hand am not.
I can say by not working (I only work 2x/week) I don't need many work clothes. I shop at old navy now for t shirts and jeans which I couldn't wear to work. I still get my nails done but just not as often mainly because of time. I let my hair go to its natural color when I was pregnant so I don't need to get it colored anymore. I'm also letting it grow out so its easy to pull up so less hair cuts. We still eat out quite a bit but we were never big spenders on our eating out unless its a special occasion. We buy in bulk at Sams Club/Costco.
My downfall is that I still don't know how to weigh wants vs. needs. Hopefully I will get better at this.
I have basically cut my salary in half minus a little more and we're still doing well.

Re: Question for the stay at home moms....
Thanks so much Shana and thank you ladies! Im going to try my hardest to do this and make it work.
As said, I've already been throwing out any catalogs sent to the house - I don't even take a peek - i mean business!
And im trying to lose some more weight so that I can fit comfortably into my wardrobe again - that can eliminate me spending some more money. TIA

Re: Question for the stay at home moms....
Well, I tried taking all my nails off but that didn't work because I started going for regular manicures once a week and it was the same $$ as my fill ins. So I went back to fake nails.
I still get my hair highlighted but I wait a while between colorings...I think I'm going on 4 months now...
We don't go out and do things like dinner, movies, bars/clubs anymore either...so that saves us $$$. The only time we go out to dinner is for birthdays.
I haven't shopped for new clothes in who knows when.
I also don't spend a lot of money on gas because I walk with Jared in the stroller...I'm not driving all over the place.

Re: Question for the stay at home moms....
I dont know if i quality as a SAHM since i work 2 days a week, but my salary was cut some. I try to use coupons alot, been shopping at costco or BJ's for diapers and wipes, I do still get my nails done (cant give that up). I go to my mother in laws alot during the week and I make her drive everywhere to save me on gas. Plus we walk alot too. But other than that, I just told my DH he has to either pick up extra shifts at his job or get another one as far as bills go. I like paying alot to credit cards not just the minimum, so he has to work more. Thats just the way it is.
