Question for those that rent?
Do you have A/C's. Do you pay more the months you use the A/C, and if so how much?

Re: Question for those that rent?
We didn't used to pay for electricity and had to pay between $200 - 300 per AC for the year, depending on how many BTUs the AC was. They recently metered the building, so now we will pay our own and are waiting for the first biil

Re: Question for those that rent?
we have CAC
we're on the LIPA "budget plan" where you pay the same amount every month. I prefer that to getting slammed in the summer with huge bills.
ETA: our apt is in a complex, not someone's house.

Re: Question for those that rent?
When we rented, we def paid more for AC in the summer. Our regular Con Ed bill was about $70 a month, in the summer it was like $150.

Re: Question for those that rent?
When I rented my bill went up about $35 in the summer.
I did get one of those energy efficient A/Cs where I would set the temp and it would turn itself on and off to keep the apartment that temp.

Re: Question for those that rent?
In the summer months we would put an ac unit in the bedroom...we did not pay extra during those months (nor did we pay electricity - it was included in our rent).

Re: Question for those that rent?
We pay our own electric but when my mother lived here she was charged an annual surcharge of $150 per ac in her co-op which included electric in the maintenance.

Re: Question for those that rent?
We pay our electric to LIPA. We are on the balanced bill plan so ours stays the same. We have two energy saver AC's and before we were on the balanced bill pay our electric increased like $15 per month. We only run them at night though.

Our Con Ed goes from $35 all year long to $60 in the summer months. Not bad at all.

Re: Question for those that rent?
I have had central air in most apartments I've rented. My electric bill is usually higher in the summer. I'm not sure what our current electric company does, but the company I used when I lived in Hartford charged higher rates in the summer for electricity (I assume b/c of air conditioners).

Re: Question for those that rent?
When I rented, I didn't pay and I was careful not to abuse it
But on the flip side, I don;t get cold easily so in the winter I didn;t use much heat
