Question for those that use white noise or a CD at sleep time
All winter DD had the humidifer on all night and during naps. Now that she doesn't need the humidifier I bought a CD player and a white noice CD. I've been putting it on repeat all and it plays all night. Is that silly? should I just let it play until she falls asleeps? I just feel like it drowns out the noises (like birds and stuff) in the morning.
What do you do?
Thanks

We use this too but I have a lullabye CD that plays while he falls asleep (and the entire time while he naps). At night, I change it to white noise when I go to bed.

Re: Question for those that use white noise or a CD at sleep time
Every night since he was born we play a CD for him and leave it on continueous until the morning. It helps if he is fussy in the middle of the night. It usually puts him right back to sleep.

Re: Question for those that use white noise or a CD at sleep time
We used to do the white noise machine all night but we recently started shutting it off and DD is fine. We just keep it on until we go to bed & by then the neighborhood is quiet (not many cars out). DD is fine with it...I think it has become our habit more than it has hers.

Re: Question for those that use white noise or a CD at sleep time
We use that "slumber bear" thing that makes white noise for about 10 minutes (we hit it 2 or 3 times until she falls asleep) and we have a CD that plays for about an hour. We do not keep it going all night. I'm afraid of her becoming too conditioned to it so that she would not be able to sleep without it. I'm afraid of her becoming a light sleeper if she doesn't get used to sleeping through noise.
Another thought-could it impact their hearing long term? I thought continuous white noise sometimes has that side effect. Anyway, these are just my concerns around it and why I don't do it all through the night and why I want to lay off it altogether eventually.

Re: Question for those that use white noise or a CD at sleep time
Actually I thought my son was TOTALLY dependent on his humidifier... Until we came home from vacation. I took it out of his room to clean it and forgot to put it back in there before he went to bed. I was soooo nervous he wouldn't sleep good without it. Turns out, he sleeps just fine, soundly all night long. I was also worried for him to be too dependent on the white noise that he couldn't sleep otherwise.

Re: Question for those that use white noise or a CD at sleep time
we have the white noise machine and i use all night and at naps, that way it drowns out everything. DD is a light sleeper like me.
I want to get a CD player also for her room, but that i would just put on to help her fall a sleep, then once a sleep i will turn off.

Re: Question for those that use white noise or a CD at sleep time
We keep a fan running in her room on the lowest setting whenever she takes a nap and overnight. We don't shut it off after she falls alseep, but don't have it running when she's not in there obviously. It helps drown out household noise & birds, etc.

Jod
I let Paige's play all night long. I just put the CD player on repeat and away it goes. It definitely drowns out sounds. I need it in my house with the squeaky wood floors and the dogs nails and their whining it totally helps.

We keep it on all night, but to be honest I like it when I wake up & hear the ocean, etc. She actually will fall asleep fine w/o it.

I put on a lullaby CD everytime he goes down for the night or for naps. I just let the CD play once.

Re: Question for those that use white noise or a CD at sleep time
We had been keeping it on all night until recently when I got tired of hearing the humming all night long on the monitor. So now I turn it off before DH and I go to bed and it's not a problem at all. In fact, I bet DD wouldn't need it at all, but I feel like it drowns out the sounds downstairs when we are awake (we live in a split, so her bedroom is only 6 steps up).
