Question for those who have DC that nap every

2 hours. According to Healthy Sleep Habiles, Healthy Child they say that baby has a 1 -2 hour awakening period. I definitely started noticing DD getting tired after about an hour of being awake and I can usually get her to nap within the 2 hour mark.

My problem is she sometimes naps so long that she's missing a feeding. She is 12 weeks old and usually takes 5 - 7oz bottles a day (8, 11, 2, 5, 8).

Well its 4pm and she's only had 2 bottlesChat Icon She had one at 9, napped until 1:30 and is asleep again.

I think this is causing her to wake up in the middle of the night for feedings. How do you let them have the sleep they need and get in the feedings?

Re: Question for those who have DC that nap every

DD went to bed at 9 last night woke up for a bottle at 6am drank it and went back to sleep then woke up at 7:15 drank another bottle at 8 went to sleep at 10 until 2:45 then drank almost 7oz then went to sleep again at 4 and she is still sleeping

she sleeps alot during the day and still sleeps through the night
I try to keep her up a good 2 or 3 hours before we put her down for the night

I know you are going to get sick of hearing this...but two weeks ago, when Steven was her age, he was going through the same exact thing. Now, he is still waking in the night.

Honestly, I think it's better to give them a quick night feeding than it is to wake them during the day for a feeding. Because then she will be overtired and you will have a very hard time putting her down either for her next nap or at night.

And, I kept saying the same thing you said in another thread "just in time to go back to work..."

Since my daughter's weight gain was always as it should be, I let her lead the schedule. Unless she isn't gaining weight at the right pace, I'd trust that she knows what she needs...

I NEVER woke Marron to feed her! Not even when she was a newborn. I was having the same concerns when she was about 12 weeks old -- was she waking during the night because she wasn't eating enough during the day? I sometimes gave her a "twilight" feeding just before I went to bed -- I would feed her without waking her. This did help some. But by the time she was about 4-5 months, we had her totally weaned off of nighttime feedings. She basically eats every 4 hours during the day. She wakes up and eats, is up for about 2 hours then sleeps for 1-2 hours. This cycle keeps repeating pretty much all day long.

I agree, don't wake her! Just feed her when she wakes up! Put your feet up, get a nice cup of tea and watch you some Jerry Springer!!!!

Re: Question for those who have DC that nap every

I never woke her for a feeding, I BF til 4 months old then bottle fed. I always went by her lead.

I noticed when she slept alot, she was growing and in the next couple days she would make up her missed feedings by eating more.

I still go by her cues and she's 10 months oldChat Icon She set her own schedule.

Def enjoy that nap time, now that DD takes 2 half hour naps a day, i wish i could just take a shower in peaceChat Icon and go back to those days of hours of sleepy time!

Are you putting her someplace dark to nap? Maybe she's confusing day and night?

My ped advised us to not let him sleep more than 3 hours duing the day. This way he'd be tired enough to sleep through the night. It has worked for us. Jack's been sleeping from 11-7 since 9 weeks. HTHChat Icon

That's great! Maybe she was just going through a little growing phase that made her a little hungrier than usual.
