Question for those with a plasma TV...

We want to get a plasma to put on the wall in the bedroom to save some space. After thinking about it where the heck do you put the cable box? I really want a nice neat look and no wires or stand. So if you have a plasma on the wall where is the cable box?

Re: Question for those with a plasma TV...

We drilled holes into the wall and ran the wires down to the dresser where the cable box sits. The tv is right above the dresser, make sure to buy the correct holder for the tv, the one we have moves the tv from side to side its great!!

That is a great idea. We want it to sit on the wall with nothing underneath. Was thinking to maybe run the wires behind the wall and put the cable box in the closet. Sounds funny but it might work.

We have it built into the wall behind a piece of glass.

You could put a cabinet nearby which stores, cable box, VCR, DVD, etc. Then, run the needed video cables through the wall and to the TV. Sort of the same idea as installing speakers for a Surround Sound System.

For our plasma tv, eric ran the wires thru the wall, so that we couldnt see them- it is a nice neat look- we still need to get something for the cable box and the components to sit on, but eventually, there will a nice console table underneath the tv that everything will sit on.

That is my problem. We have a sleigh bed and no room for a table under the TV - just the TV on the wall. If we had a console table we wouldn't be able to walk. I can always put the cable box on top of a dresser. Keep the ideas coming...thank you.

It's in the wall. We had a shelf built into the wall and the wires were snaked through the wall as well. Chat Icon

Eric said he saw something the other day at Best Buy that would fix this problem- let me ask him later and I'll let you know- He's usually good with these types of things!

Re: Question for those with a plasma TV...

We have all of our electronic components in a closet, we have a little electric eye on the TV that repeats the signals from our remotes into the closet. Wires come through the wall but are not visible in the room because they are behind TV. Speaker wire for surround sound is soon to be snaked under floor and up to ceiling.

Within a year or so cablevision is supposed to give a card that you can put in a slot on the TV, no box needed. Not sure if it's available yet but should be soon.

I mentioned the cablecard to my wife... and she said it kinda *****. She said the reception is crappy... they are having a lot of issues with it... and she also said with the cablecard you don't get the TV channel guide or any of the on demand channels.

True?

reception should be the same, as far as the guide some of the tvs have a tv guide svc built in that you would use for program info. the on demand well your sol, but it gives you the cleanest look if you want it on the wall and do not want to worry about were to put the box

I'll definitely agree about the "clean look". Cablecards seem like a very cool concept. When I was looking for a new TV for the bedroom... one of the plasmas I saw had the cablecard and I said... this will be cool... no cable box.

But my wife vetoed the idea. LOL She said she wants the cablebox for all the special stuff like the iO guide and on demand stuff.
