question from NFR got me thinking.
Their was a post regarding how much to give as a christening gift and someone suggested to cover their plate. I actually never thought that the gift I was giving might be used to pay for christening. So my question what did you do with the money your child received. I doesn't necessairly have to be a chistening but any religious event.

Re: question from NFR got me thinking.
We put her gift money into her bank accounts, or on occassion have used cash from a gift to buy her a new toy.

Re: question from NFR got me thinking.
I opened a custodial savings account for her, and will be investing it into a higher earning ING account.

I also plan on putting it into his money market account. I hope it wasn't to personal but I was just wondering.

Re: question from NFR got me thinking.
We just have a regular bank acct. for him and that's where all his money goes. I would never think to take money from him to pay for his parties...

I'm actually pretty bummed -- she didn't get any money. She got two savings bonds and one american express gift card. I was hoping to put it all into a savings account for her but we'll wait until her first year birthday now.

That is what we will do as well.
eta: I do not expect any gifts from anyone, but I know my family and know they will give her something.

Re: question from NFR got me thinking.
Its my DD money, so we put it in her account. I wouldn't think to use it for anything else.

Re: question from NFR got me thinking.
I spent it on him now. We keep a record of a running a total of all the gift money he's received and he will get it all, every penny, plus interest when it's time. I know it's smarter to actually put it in an account considering I do have a 529 for him, but it's really not much and the interest isn't going to be much. So we felt it was better to spend it on him now.
But I did not use it to pay for his christening. But I don't think that if people give a gift in an amount that covers their plate it means that that's what the parents are going to use it for. I think it's just a measure of how much to give as a gift. Not that I necessarily agree with it either.

Re: question from NFR got me thinking.
All of it went into his savings act.
However at christmas whatever $$ he made (which wasnt much-since most of his gifts were clothing or toys) we put together and bought him a toy chest!
