Question re feeding
Liam was taking 5 bottles for the past month, all 6 oz each. Doing fine. I increased two of the bottles to 7 oz, seemed to be working fine.
Ever since he started teething he doesn't always finish a bottle. Leaves 1 or 2 oz behind. So sometimes he's eating as little as 4 oz per bottle or sometimes 5 oz (depending on if I'm feeing him the 6 or 7 oz bottle at the moment).
So now he's taking just 4 bottles. 6am, 10am, 2pm, 6pm and falls asleep for the night before the last bottle. I don't want to wake him.
So now he's eating 24 oz - if that! This is down from 30 - 32 oz. So what do I do? I would increase the four bottles to 8 oz each, but if he's not even drinking his 6 or 7 oz bottles all the way will he drink an 8 oz one? I don't think so.
I don't know what to do. His ped seemed to indicate that it's very important he get the 32 oz but what can I do force it? No way am I going to force it on Liam. That's not right.
What do you all do in a situation like this? I really wanted to put off solids until 6 months.

DD started this a couple weeks ago. She was sucking 6oz bottles dry before teething kicked in hard. She would finish 6 bottles of 6 ounces easy.
Now she's eating 3-4, unless she's really hungry she'll eat 5 ounces. She has her good days and bad, I do plan on mentioning this tomorrow at her appt.
Our ped wants her to be drinking at least 22-24 ounces a day, she's 6 months old.
She only eats cereal a couple times a week, and at least with her, it doesn't matter, if her gums hurt, she doesn't eat, whether it's cereal or bottle. I can say though, she does prefer the bottle over the solids when she's hungry and gums are bothering her.
ETA: I don't force it on her, but we try not to give up very easy either.

as long as he's gaining weight and having enough wet diapers he should be fine. hannah eats sometimes only 14 oz a day and our ped said as long as she makes enough wet diapers then she is hydrated. she is a a very light eater.

How old is he? My daughter gets about 24 ounces a day and pedi says that fine (she's also on cereal too, but before that it was ok too). From about 3 m onths on, the pedi told us 24-28 was perfect range for her. Not sure if this helps.

He's 14 weeks old. I thought (and my friends I've told also thought) it was very odd that the pedi said he wanted Liam consuming 28-32oz of formula per day now. I even called back to ask to make sure I heard right. He said no more than that but it should be up to that. He was 12 lbs at his 3 month weight check on Nov 3, and he was still 12 lbs a week later, but he had had diarreah that week so that could be why. Everyone says not to worry but I don't want him losing any weight either.
