Question re: New Bortatella(sp?) shot
There is a new shot out that now lasts 3 years instead of one. Well, it sounded good and we were told there was no difference in reaction to dogs than the one year. Well, we figured that Emmie didn't have a reaction to the one year, so we would try the 3 year. Well, she ended up having a severe reaction: her face swelled up almost double it's size, her eyes were red and extremely puffy and she was having trouble breathing. Thankfully, we got her back to the vet, at 11:00 at night, just in time! Now Emmie is doing OK and she is on steroids for two more days and an antihistimine for the rest of the week.
My question is: has anyone else had this 3 year shot and did your dog have any reactions? THanks.

Re: Question re: New Bortatella(sp?) shot
I do not do the longer shots on my smaller dogs, but my larger Shiba Inu & my Pug (who is huge) both get their 2 year boosters rather than annuals. I am just afraid that for the little ones it is too much vaccine for them all at once
Neither of my bigger dogs has had a reaction, other than being a bit tired the day if the shot.
Sorry Emmie had a bad reaction. I hope she is OK

Thanks
Emmie is still a little sick from the meds, but she'll be OK. Thanks for your response, I won't get her that shot again.
Also, I urge people with small dogs NOT to get the long-term shots.

my dogs actually do not get that vaccine - that's for kennel cough- and they aren't kenneled ever- or around a lot of dogs that are kenneled.

neither is Emma, but I was told that it is good to have becuase they can pick up Kennel Cough just from being outside where other dogs poop. I said, but she doesn't EAT other dog's poop (LOL) and the vet said it doesn't matter. It's probably just to get more money out of me.
