Question re Part time Nanny

Hi, can you guys help - I hired a part time nanny who comes 3 days a week. Do I pay her holidays and vacations ?
We never talked about it when I hired her, I just assumed that I didn't bc she was part time but now she just asked and I don't know what to say. She is great so I want to keep her happy !

What would you guys do ? Any advice would be much appreciated ! TIA

Re: Question re Part time Nanny

When I was a part time nanny (worked 2 days/week 9 hours/day usually), I only got paid on for holidays if I was actually working that holiday. And it was never extra pay or anything like that (but I was also never asked to work the big holidays like Christmas, Thanksgiving, etc.). I was alloted 2 vaction days/year. It was pretty reasonable to me. HTH! Chat Icon

Re: Question re Part time Nanny

I would pay her for any holidays that fall on her normal work days especially since you like her. Regarding vacation you might want to pay her 1 week when you decide to take your vacation. I always feel bad not paying since this is their livelihood and I get paid when I take time off.

Re: Question re Part time Nanny

We have a part time nanny (3 days/week) and we pay her a full (3-day) week's pay every week. However, I do ask her to switch days sometimes or 'make up' a missed day (I'm a teacher so I get a lot of days off).

ETA: She gets 2 weeks paid vacation, which coincides with my vacations.

I used to be a nanny for few years so I have some experience in this. I don't think that you have to pay the part time babysitter on holidays unless it's her working day(even if she is off bc it's a holiday) BUT IMO you should pay a full time nanny for holidays no matter what. I always had :
-5 sick(paid) days
-paid holidays
-2 or 3 weeks paid vacation.
That's like an unwritten rule between nannies and employers in NYC, not sure how it isn in LI.
