Question re starting a new job

I was presented and offer and accepted it, but have not started yet as it is pending the results of the drug screening and background investigation.

My family is #1. I know some employers do not agree or respect this.

How can I make this clear w/o looking irresponsible and like I'm looking for special consideration?

I'm willing to work late/ come in early/ work thru lunch/etc in order to attend school functions for my DC or care for him when he is sick/school is closed/etc.

It is just my DH and I. We live with my MIL, but she works full time, and is unreliable. My family is OOS and we have no other family that can help (esp on a last minute basis).

Is this wrong to say?

Re: Question re starting a new job

I would have addressed this when they presented thier offer and negotiated prior to accepting.

If you arent able to work your normal hours and live with the vacation/personal time they offered then i would call and let them know your conditions prior to your start date.

Re: Question re starting a new job

I was presented the offer yesterday, and to be honest I was so freaking nervous, I didn't even think to say anything about it.

I have the email of the person I met with, so would it be wrong to email him? Or should I call? I'm always reluctant to say anything b/c my last job (a very small company) had zero understanding of my situation (virtually no family aside from DH & myself)

Re: Question re starting a new job

Honestly, I wouldn't put the cart before the horse just yet.

Accept the offer and then if and when something comes up, address it then.

If you go in and start talking about school functions and your child being sick, I think this would present a red flag of you being unreliable.

Most employers are understanding and accomodating, but I think you still need to be able to prove yourself first.
