My SIL has a side door and they have a deck built off the door that leads around to the back yard. Its pretty nice.

We have a door going out of the side and have to walk around to the back to get to the deck / patio area.
It's kind of a pain in the azz and eventually (I'm talking 5-10 years down the road) we will put a doorway going right to the back from the dining room
