Questions about bath time...
What room of the house do you give your DC a bath in? Did it change depending on the age?
Also, how often do you give your DC a bath, especially if they are tiny (DS is 7 weeks old)?
My mom and I are disagreeing right now - the books say not every day and she is appalled by that.
TIA!

DD is 2 and we give her a bath in the tub. When seh was younger it was in the sink, or in the tub with the bath seat.
And she gets a bath every other day, and that has not changed at all.
Her skin is dry and washing it every day would just dry it out more.

Re: Questions about bath time...
i've been bathing her everyday since she came home. (Her umblical cord fell off very quickly, so i never did sponge baths). She is bathed in her tub which fits into my kitchen sink. she probably doesn't need to be bathed every day, but she loves it and i like her smelling like a baby

Re: Questions about bath time...
once the cord falls off - we were told twice a week by our doc.
depending on her skin (she has excema) - we do it twice or once a week...because her skin was drying out from the bathing...
she's a sweaty baby - so at first we were bathing her more often and that's when the excema popped up. now i just dress her more appropriately, ignoring the comments that we get.

Re: Questions about bath time...
we always bathed ds in the bathroom... we have a big counter so we were able to put the infant tub there initially, they he went into the bath seat at 4 weeks old in the actual tub (i hated the infant tub).... we bathed him everyother until he was about 8 weeks old and then i had to switch to everyday because he had such awful cradle crap that it had to soak his head in oil every day......
we opted for our bathroom because i would close the door and it would be less drafty in the winter... i also, to this day, dress him in the bathroom as well... no reason to treck him through the whole house when he has wet hair in the winter
do what you think is right.. my mother lectures me on bathing ds at night as she feels they should be bathed after a night of sitting in a wet diaper...

Re: Questions about bath time...
We used to bath DS in his tub on the kitchen counter, it was easy to get him in and out and it was usually warm in there. We did every 3 days as recommended by the ped since DS has very sensitive dry skin. When he got bigger we moved his tub into the regular tub. While I don't think there is anything wrong with a daily bath for an infant for us it would have made his skin way too dry and its not like he was really dirty anyways.

Re: Questions about bath time...
My ds is a little over 10w now and at my pediatrician's recommendation we bath him 3 times a week...so almost every other day. She told us that so long as you keep a baby's face & hands clean there's no need to fully bathe them every day as it will probably just dry out their skin.
I started out with his tub in the kitchen sink, but I've moved it onto our table the past few times. It's lower & easier to work with him...

Re: Questions about bath time...
DD is 9 weeks old and we bathe her 2x a week, and our ped is fine with this. when she gets older we'll bathe her more, but really, how dirty is she getting now? we wash her face and hands all the time.
we bathe her in her room, put the tub on her changing table. we have no kitchen right now, and to put the infant tub in the bathtub is uncomfortable.

Re: Questions about bath time...
My baby is 2 months old but I have been in this routine for a while. I give my baby a bath bath every three days or so, but I give him a sponge bath every single day and basicaly clean him as good as a real bath.
I either bath him in the kitchen in his fisher price bath but if my husband is around a put him in the bath with me! I love taking baths with him, it is so easy and such wonderful bonding time. He absolutley LOVES it!
I give him his sponge baths on the changing table.
I also give him a full body massage and cream his little body everyday!

My son doesn't need so much bath time/sponge bath time either but he loves it so much, it is a treat for him!

i bathe ds every night - he loves it. he could be having a screaming crying fit and once i put him in the bath hes all smiles
in the morning after a night of a full wet diaper i sit him in a basin and wash him up again - not a full bath but a bath pretty much from the waist down dh was telling me i was washing him too much and asked our ped. dr said bc his skin wasnt dry and was ok w daily baths

I bathed DS twice a week in his infant tub in the big tub. He had perfect skin as a baby bc we were sure not to over bathe him. no baby acne, cradle cap, dry skin ever

Re: Questions about bath time...
I bathe my 4 month old DD in our kitchen sink in her tub...have been doing that since she came home from the hospital. She LOVES her bath and she gets one every other day...but if it's a non bath day and she has a bad poop or spit up a ton, then I will give her a bath too of course.

Re: Questions about bath time...
Up untiil they were around 7 months I bathed them in the infant tub that fit right over my sink so I used my sprayer attachment to hose them down and keep them warm. Then they moved right into the big tub. My son has bad eczema and we were told by our pediatric derm to bathe every day and heavily moizturize directly after the bath. So My kids get bathed every night since about 4 months. When they were your DC 's age it was every other night

Re: Questions about bath time...
he's 16weeks and just about to outgrow the infant tub in the kitchen sink. I'm going to put it in the bathtub next week.
we bathe every other night - we were doing every night but stopped because his skin dries out and he needs to be slathered in aquaphor.

Re: Questions about bath time...
we started out in the sink in the kitchen...and then as DS got older we moved to the bath tub in the bathroom.
we have really never given DS a bath every day. maybe in teh summer if he gets really sticky, etc.
when he was tiny we definitely didn't do it every day, and we didn't do it every other day. we probaly just did it every few days. he has sensitive skins, so we didn't do baths too often.
Now that he is 19 months and the weather is colder we do every third day.

Re: Questions about bath time...
DD is 3 weeks old and from day one we have been bathing her every night (sponge bath for a week until her cord fell off). The bath calms her and I know people say they are not dirty, but after a day in a diaper with poop and pee I like to wash her down quickly. Also,in the morning when I get her dressed I usually sponge her down just b/c she's been sitting in the diaper a little longer than during the day.

DS is 3.5 months old. He gets bathed in the infant tub on the kitchen table. We do baths every 3 days. Anything more will dry out his skin and he develops excema.

Re: Questions about bath time...
I've always bathed DS in the guest bathroom. I have plenty of counter space for the tub and an area to change him.
DS has sensitive skin. Unless he had a major blowout, I bathed him 2-3 times per week. I wash his face, neck and hands in between.

We do the same. If we see that he's very sleepy and it's a bath night, we'll skip the bath and let him sleep instead. Last night was supposed to be a bath night, but he was out like a light at bath time and we didn't want to wake him.

Re: Questions about bath time...
I give DD (9 weeks) her bath in our regular bath tub. I just drop the infant tub inside of it. I find it easier to clean out the tub afterwards since it's already in the bathroom. I did the same for DS as well. Once he outgrew the infant tub and was good at standing up, I bought a bath mat. Now he stands on the mat in our tub while I wash him there.
Both DS and DD bathe every 2-3 days. DS has bad eczema and the dermatologist told us he only needs to bathe like twice a week because his skin will keep drying out. We're already doing the same with DD because she's had eczema flareups as well.
I know a lot of moms that wash their kids everyday, which is fine for them. However, it won't work for us because of my babies' skin problems.

This is what we are trying to do now. We were bathing DS everyday and he developed Eczema so we had to change to every other day. The only problem is that it's much harder to get him to bed without the calming bath
