Questions for mothers of babies who outgrew the infant car seat early on...

DS is 5 months and a week, and is 29.5 inches and now pretty much out of his infant car seat that goes to 29". If you outgrew this early on, what did you put them in to go shopping? DS can sit up, but I am wary of having him sit up in shopping carts already, and if I use a stroller, I can't imagine being able to grocery shop. Chat Icon

I also really relied on the snap and go, and now I guess I have to lug him in and out of the car all the time. Chat Icon Chat Icon

I have no advice for you but I will be at this point soon. I have been using my regular stroller lately and not using the car seat and snap n go because I think DS is more comfortable in the stroller. I just take him out of the infant seat and put him in the stroller with a big heavy blanket on him. I may try using the Bundle Me in the stroller. I think I can do that.

As for shopping, I don't take DS grocery shopping yet. I wait until DH is home and go.

I used the Bjorn for grocery shopping and the stroller for mall shopping.

See, unfortunately for me, DS is huge and I am small, so the Bjorn KILLS my back! Chat Icon

My DH is never home Chat Icon, so though I also work f/t, I wind up doing all the shopping w/ DS.

DS outgrew his at about 6 months because he was 20lbs. I just sat him in the shopping cart directly with a cart cover. He sits perfectly & it hasn't been an issue. If that won't work, what about a Bjorn or other baby carrier? I used to do that with DD because she hated staying in the carseat for shopping.

I was so sad to say goodbye to the snap and go. My DS is 2 and I still miss it sometimes. Chat Icon

I used the stoller and a basket on my arm. For heavier shopping, I waited until DH was home.

It will probably only be a short time before he can sit in the grocery cart. Once DS could sit up pretty well in the stroller, I put him in the cart, with a cart cover and some blankets around him to keep him steady.

I actually had the same exact problem. I used to just shop as fast as I could and kind of lean/sit him on the cart while in the Bjorn as much as I could to take the pressure off. I swear those Bjorns are not made for small girls!

stroller.

I got a Mommy Hook and just put a small basket on that. I never went major shopping at that stage.

Once she could hold herself upright and steady, I'd put her in the cart with a cart cover. I used towels as 'bumpers' because she was tiny. She had some special soft but firm plushes we used in there too to keep her sitting up right or for her to lean on when she just got tired of sitting up.

Feels like those days came and went so fast! Now she kicks her feet happily in the cart hahaha

I would use the stroller. And not do big grocery shopping trips on my own.
I would only shop for things I could hold in a basket, and then rest the basket on the top of the stroller while I wheeled her around.
Sometimes, I would use the basket underneath also.
It was a great money saver!
