Questions for those who have a DC in a big girl/boy room?
DD keeps asking for a big girl room, so I have a few questions.
1) Did you change the paint? If so where did your DC sleep while you painted? We don't have an extra room.
2) Did you do a theme? Can you post a pic?
3) Anyone know how to take a border down???? Will it ruin the paint underneath?
4) I have a convertible crib (to a daybed) but I think I want to do either a toddler, twin or full size bed? DO you think I should just use the daybed since I have it or just go straight to a bed?
Thanks!!!
ETA DD is 2 1/2

We didn't change the paint. We do have a "theme"- Dora. She has a Dora bedset, Dora toy shelf, etc. I am going to start in the next couple of weeks getting some Dora wall decorations (we just moved) to put up.
As for the bed, DD was in regular twin bed at 2 years.

we didn't change the paint. don't have a theme- was green & pink- although b/f this baby comes, we're probably gonna get her a disney bedding set.
We did all big girl furniture- full bed w/ bookcase headboard- stuff she'll use until she moves out- not dong the furntiure thing again!

Re: Questions for those who have a DC in a big girl/boy room?
We did change the paint and themes. I let them pick the paint color to get them into the process - Sarah went for a bright pink and Andy picked a bright blue. Sarah slept at my mom's when we had her room painted and Andy slept on an Aerobed in Sarah's room when his room was being painted.
Sarah's room is not really a theme per-say. Lots of pink and flowers, which she loves. She had a convertible crib that we switched to the toddler bed configuration.
Andy's is a police theme. He has Little Tikes toddler size racing car bed that I ordered police stickers for so it looks like a police car now. My mom's friend is a seamstress and make curtains out of a police themed fabric. I got fanpulls that are a police hat and a shield.
I got wall stickers for their rooms that I used to decorate their doors, walls, and ceiling fan blades.
Sarahs that I got on ebay:
Andy's that I got from mygrowingchild.com:

If you want to put up a new border, you can put it right over the old one.
And no, we did not change the paint, just got new bedding and a few wall decals and decorative things.

Re: Questions for those who have a DC in a big girl/boy room?
My DD's big girl room isn't done yet, but here is where I am with it. I am actually moving her into the bigger of the 2 kids bedrooms. I put new carpet in, painted it pink and got new bedding and drapes. I got a Glenna Jean toile pattern for the bed, a chandelier, and I'll be making cornices for the windows. The room will be very pretty and girly. I chose not to do a little girl's theme. I don't know why -- I guess I just fell in love with this so it is what she's getting. I ordered all new furniture (a twin bed) and the furniture from her nursery will stay in there for DD#2.

Taking down a border is really easy. Start where the wallpaper ends, like at the doorway. Peel the decorative "plastic" off all the way around. Now you'll be left with the paper part which is glued to the wall. You can get wallpaper adhesive remover from Home Depot and spray that on, let it sit for a while and then scrape with a plastic putty knife. It should come right off. Or if you have a fabric steamer, try steaming it and it should also come right off. Try really hard not to nik the wall with the putty knife so you don't have to spackle before you paint.

That's exactly how I took it down when I was redoing the nursery into Andy's big boy room. I found that the DIF fast acting liquid (red spray bottle) worked better than the gel (blue spray bottle). I got the DIF liquid at a local ACE hardware.

We didn't change the paint. We got her the twin bed and got her a new bedset to match. We didn't have a border, so that made it a little easier.
ETA: we went with this set from Kohls since her walls were already pink & green:

Re: Questions for those who have a DC in a big girl/boy room?
We had new rooms built for both DC as part of our major renovation. Therefore, we did paint just before they moved in.... DS was 5.5 at the time, so he picked the colors for his room, and DD's room. DD has a Disney Princess and butterfly themed room, and DS has a "boys room" theme..... Cars (the movie), Superheroes (Spiderman, Wolverine, Iron Man), and Transformers.
If you have a convertible bed frame, the final conversion after daybed/toddler bed is a full-size bed. You can't do a twin size bed.
