Questions needed answered for good friend

Hi girls! I have to say I miss talking on this board.

I have some questions, maybe u can help me.
A friend of mine has been trying for a few years to concieve. She called me last night to talk about IVF because thats what I did and she wants to know if she should move on.
Question is..why would they do like three inseminations and never check to see with a hsg how her tubes are?? DO alot of u get that>
I think that is cruel and senseless if someone has a 50,000 coverage cap. I think maybe they try to milk more money that way.
He then said the doc---ok, three times it didn't work and now lets test u for problems?????????

also---is it common for insemination to go get the speciman yourself from hospital and bring it and then they do it within a hour or so? I know with analysis that was ok with my dh but with invitro--I was being brought into operating room then my dh went to do his thing.
Another question---everyone happy with Dr. Bronson>>>>>

He seems to have no night and weekend hours for her and its affecting her job...what do u all think about all this?
tia

Re: Questions needed answered for good friend

I'm going to try and work from the back forward...
I am currently going to LI-IVF and although I am not using Dr. Brenner, their hours are not the best in the world but they do seem to work with you and they have various offices so you can choose the most convenient.
As far as the man's sample - I was told by them that you can't bring a sample and that DH has to do it there or we have to freeze the sample prior, but he still has to give his sample at the office.
Lastly, I am honestly surprised that she wasn't fully tested there since I just started there and the first thing they did was run a battery of tests including an HSG. They told me that they couldn't believe my previous RE didn't do an HSG before doing IUI's.
Maybe she is not really communicating with her Dr., she may be asking you these questions but not him...I'm not sure. I am just starting the IVF process and have moved from RSNY to LI-IVF and found them much more thorough and informative. I wish I had more info for you, but I hope I helped a little.
I hope she is successful with whatever she does.

Your are right about the HSG, it bothers me so much that doctors do this.

As for the sperm sample. I was always able to bring it with me if we could get it there within 1 hour of collection. We live 10 minutes away so we always did it that way.

There are lots of clinics, if your friend is unhappy and the hours dont meet her needs she should switch.

this is what I am telling her===now..where do u go and whom do u think is good? I went to rs of stonybrook and while my experience was amazing I hear alot diff on here.
I dk if my experience was good because I more or less knew the doc--(she does too)
so she dk if she should try them 1x or go somewhere else.
There is a 50,000 cap ad nshe already did three inseminations.
I dk the cost but my ivf was roughly 7,000

I go to NSUH and have been very happy there, a couple of the other girls here are getting ready to bring home NSUH babies- I'm still waiting.Chat Icon

That 50K should go far, but it depends on what your insurance pays the RE. When I had Oxford they paid about 6K, GHI pays about 12K.

Re: Questions needed answered for good friend

I got pg last year natually, then miscarried. We then discovered my elevated FSH and DH's low morphology count. IN SPITE OF ALL THIS, my second RE (NSUH) sent me immediately for an HSG. My tubes are fine, but the previous RE should have had me do this just in case. It should be one of the first diagnostic tests they do....

Re: Questions needed answered for good friend

I agree with Kara & Pauline, one of the first things they should do is HSG, I saw another Dr. for 2 years and quite frankly it was a waste of time, energy & money. I now go to NSUH, they ran a bunch of tests on me & DH so they could see from the start what we were dealing with.
