(The child shows many sign of autisim- no eye contact, lots of stimming, sometimes aggression, lack of speech)

Re: Quick question- re: early intervention
I would tell her to call her school district's office. My nephew was in early intervention and when he turned 3 my sister had to go through the school district to get him retested and get him services through the school district.

If you know what district she is in, you can call the special education office, the number is always listed on the district's website. Tell them you need an evaluation for the things described above and things start rolling from there.
There are different options for placement (if the child qualifies) when they are pre-school age. Nicholas went to a special education pre-school for a full day monday through friday and received his services there. They provide bus transportation and you pay nothing for the services. If the child qualifies, there is a long list of pre-schools they can attend. Nicholas went to New Interdisciplinary School in Yaphank for two years and they were wonderful! They offer p/t pre-school placement also and they can bring services to the child's current placement (i.e. home or school).

Do this. I wouldnt call all over the place. My DD rec'd services when she was almost 3 (at 2 1/2 they are done with EI), it all goes through the school district. That's the starting point, not with the agencies.

I did the same thing. I agree. Start with her Special Ed School district. If she has a school calendar, it will be listed in there. Otherwise check out their website.
