quick relief for high fevers esp children prone to febrile seizures

ive been meaning to post this but have been so sidetracked with ds being sick and now getting tubes tomorrow.
2 weeks ago ds had another febrile seizure his temp with motrin after half hr was 104. the temp shot up out of the blue.

i was at the hospital and was recommended suppositories for when i notice ds getting a temp. they only make otc feverall which is tylenol not motrin/ibuprophen

i asked ds ped if i can somehow get it made and he said i need to call up pharmacies that compound medications.

i remmebered there is a pharamcy in brooklyn that i used to use when i lived there that compounds medication. i called them up and sure enough they compound motrin suppositories. my ped called in the script and i had the ibuprophen suppositories within 2 hrs. (getting ready and driving time from suffolk cty to bayridge)

ds temp spiked up again from 99 to 103.4 that night. he was due for his motrin but refused to take anything and was throwing up so i placed the suppository and within 10 min - prob less his temp went back down to 99.

i know the pharmacy is far for some but it is worth it. the medicaiton expires 3 months from the time it is compounded and needs to be refridgerated but my ped has no problem giving me a script for 10 suppositories every 3 months. in fact they are telling patients about the pharamcy for parents who may benefit from it.

Thanks for the info! I remember when my sister was little, my mom used suppositories for her high fevers.

Another thing you can do that will help with his comfort is to put a cool (not freezing) washcloth by his armpits, behind his neck, and on each side where the torso and legs meet.

I bought some over the counter suppositories when I was in ireland - they are called paralink - I wanted them for the plane just in case DD had a high fever.
