Quick..need travel advice!
I'm booking my honeymoon in Rome. The travel agent got us a package with what they call a classic room. Some of these rooms are not in the main building and we cannot guarantee what they'll give us.
I can upgrade to a superior room for an extra $500. What to do? I'm leaning towards upgrading so I'm guaranteed a nice room in the hotel itself but does that sound like too much money?

An extra $500 a night, or total?
Imo, I would upgrade...it's your honeymoon - splurge (if you can)!

Re: Quick..need travel advice!
can you show us pics? i am all for the cheaper rooms and using the $ for spending $ - $500 is a big difference and if you are in rome, you will not be spending alot of time in the room snce there is soo much to do

I totally agree! You will be spending so much time outside the room that I don't think you will need to upgrade.

Re: Quick..need travel advice!
if the $500 is total- I would go for it
and make sure the rooms has a private bathroom- sometimes you have to share- and I would not be happy about that

Re: Quick..need travel advice!
That's the problem, they don't have pics of the room that she's booking us in. That's what's making me nervous.
Maybe I'll upgrade to the superior room and hope for the best. The hotel is www.atspanishsteps.com
She told me it'll be an extra 500 for the entire stay. Ah, so many decisions.
Thanks for all of your fast assistance!
ETA: I'd rather use the extra cash for spending money but I also want to be comfy hence the confusion.

Re: Quick..need travel advice!
wendy-p why not read through the reviews on trip advisor- i found a link to your hotel- they have alot of room type discussion on there- that may be the best bet http://rome-hotels.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g187791-d229087-Reviews-Inn_At_The_Spanish_Steps-Rome_Lazio.html

Re: Quick..need travel advice!
I read a lot of the reviews prior on another site...this one has me changing my mind all together. Looks like if we don't upgrade we might be in for quite an uncomfortable stay. Thanks so much for the tip, now have to call the travel agent and go to plan b.

Re: Quick..need travel advice!
"SOMETIMES" rooms are smaller in different countries then what is expected of a room here. So if that is the case and you are getting a bigger room...I would do it!

Re: Quick..need travel advice!
$500 total is worth it, again, imo. European hotels aren't rated the same as US hotels - especially in the larger cities...so sometimes (obviously depending on the hotel) their 4 star is comparable to a 2 star here.
If it were another vacation, I would say skip the upgrade but while you may not spend a lot of time in your room, you do spend time in there and for your HM, I think comfort should be key.
