Radio Topic- Bullying at work

They were saying how shocking it was that 40% of women bully at work.
TBH...I was a little shocked it wasnt ALOT higher. DO you thinks its more likely that a man would be the bully or the woman? and why?

Re: Radio Topic- Bullying at work

Makes total sense to me that women would bully more than men.

We saw it in high school, we see it on LIF, we see it at work, it's a part of human nature and will be with us till the end.

The mob mentality, the clique, whatever you want to call it. When people band together against a common enemy and do and say things they normally wouldn't if they were alone in their feelings.

I feel like men have less inclination or patience for lengthy b*tch sessions, gossip, grudges, etc. Although I will say that the biggest bully in my office is a man.

The reason I think women bully or are aggressive at work is bc the workplace has become a emotion fest instead of a work place. I think if everyone stuck to task at hand and didnt get into individual conversation, it would be less likely to hate the man/woman next to you. Too much home life brought to work IMO...

In some situations, I work with a lot of men (not in an office environment) and I think they gossip MORE than any group of women I have ever worked with. Chat Icon

I can see how women could be bigger bullies, though.

Maybe because I work in a traditionally male dominated field (I'm a litigation attorney), but the few bullies I have met at work have all been men.

The women I have worked with have always been pleasant and helpful.

The only bullies I have ever encounted at work had/have very little or no control in their personal lives, are typically miserable at home and tend to take it out on their co-workers/supervisees. This is true of both men and women. Again, just my experience.

I thought you meant, out of all of the women polled, only 40% bully. So 60% of the women said they didn't bully at work. Chat Icon

Hmmm...could it be the profession as well? We are pretty mixed here and the guys DEF do not gossip as much as the girls. They sit back and watch the girls attack for comical purposes.

Re: Radio Topic- Bullying at work

I think my field in general tends to attract people with unresolved issues who take it out on their co-workers. I am sure it could be worse though. I hear awful stories about this stuff from my teacher friends.
