Re: raisin bran vs. trix
raisins have a lot of natural sugar. if you looked at a container of raisins, you would see one serving has 29g of sugar. Sugar is a carbohydrate, so the amount of sugar contributes to the carb number, and therefore the calories. There is a big difference in the sugar you get from fruit and the sugar in a sweetened cereal. The Raisin Bran is definitely a smarter choice. Not only are you getting the bran flakes which have a lot of fiber, but you are getting in a serving of fruit as well.

Re: raisin bran vs. trix
When I AM dieting, I eat Cocoa Pebbles. When I'm NOT dieting I'll eat Honey Bunches of Oats and Kashi.
Nutritious doesn't always mean less fattening.
Raisin Bran is crazy fattening I think.

Re: raisin bran vs. trix
a cereal story:
DH was a very chubby pre-teen..... VERY CHUBBY.... he became very thin by the time he was 15.
the change? he stopped eating cereal and drinking soda. That's it. He dropped a whoppin' 50 lbs
DH and I are both reformed cereal addicts we are especially fond of frosted mini wheats with whole milk.... if I bought a big box, we'd probably finish it after 3 breakfasts
Other than the super bland special K, most cereals that have any taste are amazingly caloric... and their serving size is smaller than the average bowl a person eats. (grape nuts with it's 1/4 cup serving size is a perfect example!)
the only solution for us to not become morbidly obese is our stern 'no cereal' rule for our household.
