Raisins?

Are Raisins safe for a 1+ year old?

I read in my WTETFY book that they aren't safe for younger babies --- I guess a choking risk....

but I gave a few to Emily today and she LOVED them...

So I am thinking that I'd like to get the little boxes to send to the babysitters for her to eat as a snack, but want to make sure that they aren't a choking risk....

She only has 2 teeth.

TIA!
Melissa

If she does fine with them, I am sure she is ok to have them. I was super cautious with them and didn't give them to Andrew until he was 2. I guess he could have had them earlier, I just never did.

LOL! I heard about that. I warned DH!!

But I think I'll give them to her. She really seemed to like them and I love that they are a portable snack that I can send easily to the babysitters, that also counts as fruit.

Ryan loved them, but I quickly learned he wasnt chewing them. They would come out exactly the way they went in. It freaked me out a bit so I held off on them for a while.

This is exactly why I stopped feeding them to Christopher. A little too scary that they're not being chewed.

I give them to Noah and he is 10 months old, they come out whole looking even though the babies chew them as best they can. They are just harder for them to digest

eta...corn comes out in our poos, it doesn't mean that we didn't chew it!

I just got this today tooChat Icon . I've been feeding Logan raisins for a long time now....he does have LOTS of teeth but Chat Icon .

When the raisins come out whole in the poop Im not sure that means they are not chewing them....look at corn, it does the same thing even though we chew itChat Icon

Re: Raisins?

Just a side note about raisins. Pediatric dentists say raisins are one of the worst foods for children's teeth. They get stuck in the teeth, and due to their high (natural) sugar content, cause many cavities.

I stopped giving these to my son right after learning this tidbit from his dentist.
