random - the things people say
i cant believe how people just pick someone's looks apart on the celebrity board.
we are talking about human beings and what they LOOK like. not how they act (which they have control of) or what they do (which they have control of)..but how they LOOK.
it makes me sad.
i understand comments about someone picking the wrong outfit, a bad haircut, etc...
but to say someone is ugly or their nose is too big or their boobs are too flat...ugh...i just dont get it..
and yes i know everyone's entitled to their own opinions..that missing my point.

It can get brutal over there.
And I'm sure if that celeb was a "regular" person they wouldn't say half that stuff.
Some people just bash on that board. Not all... but some just never have anything nice to say.
I'd like to see a thread over there where people rip themselves apart for once.
FTR I do post over there... I like the updates and seeing the pics. But I try not to be brutal or bash too much.

I think any comments on someone's physical appearance is never appropriate. Like eat a burger or don't eat that burger. Some posters could be as thin or as heavy as some celebrities. Would we talk about them that way?
I agree with an outfit not looking good or unflatering or a bad hair cut/bad make-up. but commenting on someone's nose is not OK for me. Unless you are just comparing the nose of someone 10 years ago and their new nose but again, just commenting the procedure not the way the person looked before or not.

it still kinda bothers me... but i guess im used to it... it bothers me more when the person is obviously out on an errand in sweats and people rip them apart like they have to be to the nines every second of their life... like when Shia Lebouf was out jogging... hes jogging of course hes not going to look hot lol

yes..it's all just so mean.
it's no better than hearing the kids at school tease one another, and they are 12!
ive always been sensitive to it...and i guess realizing that adults do it too is just discouraging.

i so agree with u..a couple months agio i posteda topic over there saying r u a celeb hater bc i felt like some people just ripped every single celeb on there..
and i get its a message board ad yes sometimes the celeb looks like ..but im talking bout the ones who r alays always ripping on them
and ang i totally agree with u..noone is allowed to get coffee in sweats or have no make up on...u must go to 7-11 in a ball gown

I have felt that way too. I think it's a few things. One is that many people are jealous of celebs'$ and talent and lives. Another is that I assume that a few people are kinda pathetic IRL--no one asks them what they think of anything-no one looks to them as an authority. So, you can bet that when they have a chance to be biting and derisive on a message board, to belittle someone with more looks, etc., they seize it with gusto. It's just self importance.
But then again, I chalk most meanness up to people being sad and insecure.
And then I guess some people are just rude and unnecessarily mean.

I am confused - at least half the threads on the Celebrities board is simply started by someone (could mention someone here but I won't, *cough cough*) who simply posts a picture of a celebrity and says nothing else..
So uhm...if someone posts just a random picture- its kinda apparent that the comments following the picture are going to be either positive or negative, with various degrees of good/bad in between.

For ex, if Pia was extremely overweight/obese and/or extremely homely, she would not even have been chosen for AI. Notice AI never picks anyone who is extremely obese or extremely unattractive in society's standards.
So since looks do factor into people becoming celebs, that is often why looks comes up when discussing celebs.
We don't talk about each other like that b/c most of us on here don't make a living based on our looks (or even partially based on our looks).
So I disagree entirely with your list of reasons why people comment. I think it's human nature to look at a celeb and say "Pretty, not pretty, etc". When you are in the public spotlight and becoming famous may be related partially to your looks, people will discuss such.

so true as well
people aren't going to look at a pic of a celeb and say "Wow, she is such a nice person. I heard she helped 2 old ladies cross the street today."
B/c the reality is we often know not too much about who they are, what they do on a daily basis. All we know is what we see. Hence the life of a celeb. You take the good with the bad and people mostly seeing "YOU" for your "looks" is the way it goes.

I wasn't talking about why people comment. I think most of the comments are fine. I was only talking about what the OP referenced--those few comments that are unnecessarily acerbic, mean, etc. That was not why I think people comment at all.

i totally get that people are going to the celeb board to SEE them, not to see what good they have done for mankind.
i obviously go there too. when i open a thread of a celeb it's usually to see them, what theyre wearing, makeup, hair, etc, because i like those things and like seeing how theyre doing it. if its lady gaga, for example, i like to see her crazy get-ups.
and i dont get why people say because you are a celeb it comes with the territory. yes, there are attention seeking celebes just like there are attention seeking every day people. but a lot of these artists went into a profession they love, not just to be followed around and photographed. half of the pictures on the celeb board are people going for a walk or to the store...not at some premier or photo op.
again, i get the celeb board being to see celebs. i just cant believe how MEAN people are.

You are 100% correct about all of it. Just because someone sings...just because someone portrays a character on stage or in a movie...they are not really "asking for it" in terms of being scrutinized the way people do. Truthfully, it's none of anyone's business if J Lo needed fertility assistance or if Courtney Cox is getting a divorce, but people have decided that they have a right to know that too. To the extent that people stare and judge anyway...fine. Whatever. But the really mean, nasty comments about things people can't help? Really? It IS like people get reduced to insecure, nasty 12 year olds sometimes. And it says way more about them than it does about the person they're trashing. You hit it on the head with this post.

I still don't agree. I don't think you can be a celeb, put yourself out there, have followers, fans (not fans, etc), etc, and expect privacy when you wish. I am not saying they are not entitled to privacy, but they can't expect people to want to see them, know about them, admire them (or dislike them even) but then not want to know more (however personal it may be). I just don't find that realistic.
If someone thinks someone is manly, or unattractive, or attractive, that's human nature to have an opinion of a person on tv. And on a message board you are going to get people post their opinions of a person's looks b/c it's just a picture there with no story or writing most times or even caption. So obviously it's a thread that is sort of asking people to "talk amongst yourselves". And it's just plain human nature to discuss looks when looking a picture of someone just posing for the camera.
