Random condo/co-op question (not really "home" board related)

My IL's are moving to a new condo or co-op development in October. The complex has a "No Pets" rule.

My MIL thinks that this means that we can't bring Lilly (an 11-pound Italian Greyhound) for a weekend visit.

I think that it just means that there are no pets permanently living in the buildings on a day-to-day basis.

What is your take on this? Chat Icon Would it be OK to bring our pup up there for a weekend visit?

(This isn't really specifically home or pets related Chat Icon )

I think it means that no pets can take up residence. A weekend visit is not that.

If you brought the dog, then I would expect that your IL's will take a lot of grief for it from the neighbors and the co-op board.

I would say that means no pets. I would not bring the dog.

It depends on the board. Some by-laws will specify that animals can visit , but only for a certian number of nights in a row (to prevent people who get caught with a permanent pet from lying & saying it is only temporary.)

My co-op has a no dogs rule. I don't think we have a no visiting dogs rule per say, but there are no dog walking allowed on the property (only on the public street) so it would be hard to have a dog visit, b/c you can't get to the road without going through the pirvate co-op property.

You could probably get away with a night or two, but for a whole week, people might notice & complain, b/c they think it is going to become a regular thing.

In my building except for extenuating circumstances with prior board approval, no pets means no pets, not even for one night.

I would take that to mean no pets whatsoever. I wouldn't bring the dog.

I would take it as no pets at all and wouldn't bring the dog, unless she got permission from them in advance.

here it means no pets.... there's really no where to walk the dog... have them check the verbage in their "rule book"... it MIGHT be ok, but i know here it's not

I would ask your-in laws to check with their board to make sure. Visits may be fine but it definitely means no pets in permanent residence.

I would have them check the official board rules, but I would assume no pets means just that.

All it takes is one neighbor to see you guys walking the dog, and your parents could be in for a LOT of grief.

Re: Random condo/co-op question (not really "home" board related)

my co-op development does not allow dogs, we can have cats if we want though. at my closing, i had to sign an affadavit that i do not have a dog and will not get a dog Chat Icon a lot of my friends, including 2 of my brothers have dogs, i asked them if it is ok if the dogs come to "vist" amd they said absolutely not, i would get a fine.

definately check with the board before bringing your pet over

I agree, and if she is new, its not a good way to start with her neighbors

Re: Random condo/co-op question (not really "home" board related)

I would double-check the co-op rules, but would assume no pets means NO pets. I wouldn't think a pet visiting during the day for a couple of hours would be a problem, but I wouldn't bring the dog for an overnight visit. I just think it would put your ILs in an uncomfortable position with their neighbors and may cause conflict.

Leave the dog at home, or with a friend or dog sitter!

Why risk causing problems for them for a pet?!!

Yes, I know pets are family (I had a dog that I loved more than anything) but that doesn't mean they should be brought along.

Your IL's need to check the co-op rules and ask permission.

They have to ask exactly what that means.

Our building is no pets. If there is an animal in your apartment and it is reported it's a $100/ day fine.
