Random question - tax withholding
What do you claim as your tax withholding? Not on your tax return but on the forms that you filled out for your job
I just went from married 0 to married 2 so that I get a few more bucks in my paycheck. I still think I will get a refund as my DH has his own business with alot of business write offs
so, what do you claim and do you normally get a refund or do you have to pay in?
TIA

Re: Random question - tax withholding
i did married 2 last year, this year it will be married 0 - i found that i really prefer having the $$ in a return than in my paycheck where i don't really notice it.

Re: Random question - tax withholding
I claim S 0 or S 1 on mine even though it should be M 5. DH has his own business too with a lot of write offs but I would rather have the little extra taken out every week than a larger bill come tax time. DH also claims M 2 on his check every week to make sure we don't go over at the end of the year.

Re: Random question - tax withholding
I claim married 0, but we never get a refund because of my husbands salary. We always end up owing a ton of money.

Re: Random question - tax withholding
I claim single and "0"
When I want some extra cash, I change my withholdings for one pay period to "10" or sometimes even "12". Its a difference of over $200. I have to fill out a form to change it and fill one out to change it back, but I just set a reminder in my calendar so I dont forget. I did it for 5 pay checks last year and 6 this year. I didnt notice much of a change in my return last year. I hope this year is the same!

well for me going from married 0 to married 2 turns out to be about $50 more per pay period or 100 a month = 1200 a year, pretty much the same as what you do so hopefully it will not change the refund TOO much.
Thanks everyone

Re: Random question - tax withholding
I claim Married 0 and DH claims Single 0. I'd rather the money in a big fat return check than in my paycheck where it will be spent instead of put to good use.

Re: Random question - tax withholding
We have owed the past three years. I claim married 0 + have additional money taken out.
DH claims married 0.
For 2008, we will probably break even but I'm hoping we get a couple grand back.

Re: Random question - tax withholding
I've always claimed single 0, last year DH changed his to married 2 and we ended up owing both (with a house). Needless to say, he changed it right back to Single 0. We pretty much need that check in the spring for home repairs, etc.

I claim Single 0 and have extra money taken out. I'd rather have more money back in my refund then in my paycheck.

Re: Random question - tax withholding
I claim a lot, 8. I never end up owing taxes since I have two children, file as head of household and have daycare expenses (well this is the last year for that).

Re: Random question - tax withholding
I claim M1, he claims M2. We also have 1099 for our second job. In the past we got back money but we have a new less aggressive accountant and we will probably break even this year.
I refuse to give the gov't an interest free loan. I want my money in my pay when I need it.

Re: Random question - tax withholding
M4 - we always end up owing but it's ok, we would owe if I claimed 0 even. This way I get to use the $ for my own savings, rather than the government to build interest.

Re: Random question - tax withholding
when it was just me with ds, i would claim S5.
my life is very different now, i'm presenly M0.
will wait to see what my tax bill looks like before i make any changes.
i'm hoping to get as much as i can paycheck to paycheck instead of waiting for a tax refund.
