Random Question about teaching your children politeness in other people's homes...
Do you let your children put their shoes on the couch?
Just a little something that's been bugging me. Would you say something if a grown family member had their shoes on your couch?

A grown family member would be told to get their stinky dirty shoes off my couch...I would make sure that they are embarrassed. A child, I wouldn't mind at all.

Re: Random Question about teaching your children politeness in other people's homes...
My DS is only 16 months, but he will be told not to put his feet on anyone's furniture. I do occasionally let him stand on OUR couch with no shoes on, but I am going to try to nip that in the bud, as he is learning to walk more.
I don't allow shoes on my couch or fabric covered chairs in my house, no matter how old you are. I usually just politely ask the person to take their feet off the couch. If it's a child, I ask them to either take their feet off the furniture, or take their shoes off. It's not the feet I mind so much, it's the shoes.

ok, DS is to small but I would tell my niece and nephew (5&8) to take their shoes off my couch. I would also have no problem telling a grown person (who should know better) the same thing.

I don't care how old you are - If your shoes were on the floor, they do not belong on my furniture - And I would have NO problem telling anyone, at any age -

I have to say I agree, with some strings attached.
I have a couch in my den/playroom that is the considered the kids couch. I don't care if they monkey around on it b/c it's meant for them.
I have a leather couch that is not in a formal room; it's in a room where there is high traffic. My kids can't play on that one at all.
If we are visiting company they take their shoes off.
