Range vs. wall oven—please weigh-in!

Would you rather have a 48" gas range like the one below (six burners and a griddle or girll), or a 36" gas rangetop and an electric double wall oven? Please share your thoughts (especially you cooks out there!)

I love the first option...But I know the double wall oven would come in handy when you are cooking for big parties or holidays...

Am I naive to think that the small oven on the 48" range would be sufficient as a secondary oven? Plus I kind of like that I don't have to turn on the entire oven just to heat up a small dish.

I like the looks of the 1st one.

You could always get a convection-microwave so you have the option of baking with that along with your oven.

Do you have the all gas model or the dual fuel?

Re: Range vs. wall oven—please weigh-in!

Nothing beats a double convection oven!

Cooking at my sisters house this christmas with just one oven is a PIA especially with the temps, having 2 is really awesome!

Also having the cooktop separate is great because when you have people helping you in the kitchen its more spread out, you can have someone watching the cooktop without having to bother them to open the oven!

I have the 2nd option and its really awesome

Re: Range vs. wall oven—please weigh-in!

first of all the first one just looks amazing but i have always dreamed on having two wall ovens and a range top we entertain so much and i am still trying to find a way to set it up on our kitchen to have it.

They both are really meant for two purposes - ranges like that are built for pro setup but if you bake/cook in the oven more often then ranges on top then the double wall is much easier. I always thought that second smaller oven was either just a broiler or just a warmer but of course i never had one so not sure.

I am doing a total gut job on my kitchen and we will be putting in a double oven and separate induction cooktop. It's going to be real sweet. Chat Icon

Do you have room for 48"? I think unless your kitchen is huge...it might be too big.

For me...I don't cook enough to justify 6 burners and a grill...and a double oven has always intrigued me.

I was going to go that route with our last kitchen, but I found a range that was an awesome price...so I went with that.

A few things to think about is how big the inside of the actually oven is. Wall ovens tend to be smaller inside, so while you might have 2 ovens you still might be only cooking what you could in 1 large oven (hope that makes senseChat Icon ). Also, with wall ovens, aside from generally being small they aren't wide inside so you wouldn't be able long pans in them.

I have a Viking duel model (gas top and electric oven) with 6 burners and while the burners are amazing when it comes to cooking the oven seems so small to me and it isn't deep at all. So that 48" stove looks big on the outside but I would check how big the side of the main oven is. I know for me, if I am cooking a 20lb turkey I can't fit anything else in there not even a cookie sheet.

One option that you may want to think about and my parents did this, a separate cook top and then they put in 2 separate ovens (36in) on opposite sides of the kitchen. They did loose 2 base cabinets but she has a floor to ceiling pantry. I think it is a great idea especially if you have the room for it.

We have the double WOLF wall oven (with convection) and the 6 burner range top. If you have the space I would totally recommend this set up. It is much easier to cook when the oven is not under the range. I proved this theory yesterday when I cooked for 20 people! Also we did not get the griddle or grill because many people (including our General Contractor) told us that it gets dirty looking after a while. We went with the 6 burner and bought the special griddle for the top.

We also have the wolf micorwave that is convection oven.

induction rocks!!! Chat Icon

We just purchased some temporary appliances and an induction range was one of them. I LOVE it and will most definitely be buying another one when we remodel our kitchen!!!!

go with the double wall oven if you think you may cook a lot or do holidays. I LOVE to cook and as much as i love the look of the wolf or viking ranges, a double wall oven is more functional for me if I ever get a house Chat Icon If your kitchen is more for show and to cook dinner for your family, go with the wolf or viking range, it looks nicer and holds value when you sell the house

Re: Range vs. wall oven—please weigh-in!

I have a double oven and while I love it - I would go for the awesome range.

Especially since you said you were concerned w/space - If I didn't have a double oven - I could convert that space to storage/countertops. I would lose a shallow drawer that I keep one or two large platters in and two deep pots/pan drawers. I could find other space for those items. I could definitely make do.

I think your choice depends on:

1. How often do you entertain and are they large crowds?

2. How much wall space do you have? How big is the kitchen?

3. From a function standpoint, would double ovens in a different location be conducive to your kitchen layout? What's the work-station going to be like?
