Rant/discussion: skinny jeans
Are they ever going to go away?! I feel like this has been the longest lasting trend ever.
Or is it not a trend at this point, and this is just how jeans will be for all of eternity?
I just don't remember any other "style" of anything being around for this long (10 years now, right?) in my lifetime. I am so completely bored of them. I'm surprised more people don't feel this way - especially since they aren't the most flattering on everyone!
I know the easy answer is "don't wear them, wear what you like" - but I hate feeling like I look outdated.
I so wish bootleg/flare jeans were the permanent jean style!
ETA: For proof that this has been the longest trend ever, look down at the bottom of the page at the similar threads. Back in 2006 people were discussing skinny jeans and how it would probably be a quick trend!

Re: Rant/discussion: skinny jeans
I really like the boyfriend style right now. But I can't find a pair that looks on me, the way it looks on everyone else.
Skinny jeans, to me, are something I wear if I can, not because it's trendy. But I'm like that with all my clothing.
I couldn't wear skinny jeans for almost 6 years because of pregnancies, and weight gain. I just didn't feel comfortable in them. It's still tough finding the right fit because they all slip off me eventually, and I'm constantly pulling them up, or adjusting my derriere. But I do love the way they look with certain pieces.
Funny how I feel a similar way about boot cut. I'm like, iew, go away. Even though they can be super flattering. Maybe they remind me of conformity of the corporate fashion world.
Ripped Jeans - now that's a trend I want swallowed by a black hole.

I love my skinny jeans, I can't imagine wearing anything else now, though I resisted in the beginning! I do also like straight leg and will wear those once in a while. I did hear that supposedly bootcut was going to be back this year though, so you have hope!

Re: Rant/discussion: skinny jeans
You can still get boot cut. They even have slim boot cut where the boot cut part isn't as wide as the old school boot cut. I say regardless of what is "in" style you should wear what you like and MORE IMPORTANTLY what suits your body type. I see a lot of people in skinny jeans that shouldn't be in them. Especially with jeans- it is not a one style fits all.
My thighs are the largest part of me. I hold weight in my thighs. I retain water in my thighs. I carried my baby in my thighs.
When I put on skinny jeans, I look like an ice cream cone...an inverted triangle. It's not a good look.
Curvy fit skinny jeans are better - only because I can get them over my thighs and ass easier. But I still don't like the look. Wearing tall boots balances it out a bit though.
But at the end of the day, I don't think my body was meant for jeans. Any jeans. I am pretty much done with jeans. I don't feel comfortable in them, ever. And by comfortable I mean both physically - as in they feel tight, binding, itchy, hot, sweaty, I can't move freely- and mentally- as in I feel like i look like shit in them and they flatten my ass no matter what. So I think I may give up on even trying and just wear leggings and pants and dresses. I am wondering if it's possible to just not have the body for jeans. Maybe there are certain people who just can't wear them. I'm also feeling that way about shorts too actually.... but that's another thread

Yeah, I don't think it's a "trend" at this point. I like skinny jeans, but don't wear them everyday. I still wear my bootcuts to work because I wear sneakers every day, and I don't like the way regular sneakers look with skinny jeans.

Off topic a bit, but the thigh issue was always my horror.
I feel slightly similar about my thunderous thighs as well. But I've learned to love them....and squats. And all exercises that help me feel less jiggly there. And it's helped a lot. I know I'm a quadzilla, but now i see it as a strength. And yes, i see the ice cream cone, but it's all good from this perspective now. My legs are so d a m n strong! They need more to do.
And I had an issue with short shorts, but after a few weeks of some targeting strength training, they got a lot easier to wear.

Ugh I hear ya but my issue is I have very bad knees. So squats are really out for me. My knees hurt just walking up and down stairs. I believe I'm in the early stages of getting arthritis in my knees believe it or not, based on my symptoms. It's terrible. Lipo would be nice.....LOL

Off topic, but squats would help stabilize your knees. The Quads and Hamstrings need to be strong to support the ligaments and tendons. - coming from a double knee replacement person.
On topic, skinny jeans look terrible on me so I wear bootcut. Have to try the new boyfriend fit to see what it looks like. Skinny Jeans + plus size + size 10 feet = ridiculous

REALLY? That is good to know but my issue is when I do them, my knees hurt so badly and I am afraid I am doing more damage. Have you done squats before your knee surgery and found it helped? Did it feel painful on your bad knees?

#normalizethunderthighs When i was doing squats that messed with my knees every time i did them, I found out it was my form. I was in so much pain I could barely go up & down the stairs. I went to PT for a bit, and after watched a ton of you tube videos on form. Helped a lot. All better now. And there are lots of other exercises on youtube for knee/ leg strength that help.

And I love your hash tag! Truth is, I don't care for legs that are the same circumference from top to bottom like a pencil. LOL I do like a little curviness to a thigh, and feel like thighs SHOULD be bigger than the rest of your leg. But mine are always just TOO big.
LOL

I recently had knee surgery and all my exercises are to strengthen my quads and hamstring. That is what is going to make your knee stringer.

I personally love Skinny jeans but at 5' on a good day a more of a flared leg would look stupid on me.
The good thing is there are all styles of jeans out there so you can wear whatever you want.

I like skinny jeans but I'm also relatively tall and thin, so I know I'm lucky. I also like a slim cut boot cut, but I rarely wear them any more.
Have you seen the new cropped fringed flare leg though? Ew!!

Re: Rant/discussion: skinny jeans
I am 10000% with original poster. I hate skinny jeans with a passion! They look terrible on me. I don't really like that tapered look on anyone (men or women). I see a lot of women wearing skinny jeans that really shouldn't. I wear my bootcut jeans. I would love to wear my flare jeans (that was so my style in late 90s, early 00s), but DH said if I wear them, he will run away

I totally agree and adore my flare jeans! I don't wear a super big flare like I did back in the dat but I def still wear my bootcut and slight flare. The only time I dont mind skinny is when the are folded up . I hate tight all the way to the ankle lol, especially on me. I am also thigh/hip/butt heavy. Need the flare to balance myself out lmao

Re: Rant/discussion: skinny jeans
I love skinny jeans and I'm enjoying being back in them after a major weight loss (get a divorce and you lose 25 pounds ).
That being said, I think they share the same time with bootcut jeans, TBH. I mean think about the history of jeans. I think straight leg and boot cut share the same time, no? I think straight leg wins. I mean do we want bell bottoms back?
I do like the ripped jeans style, but I hate buying brand new ripped jeans. Second hand shops are great for this trend if you like it (I'm just starting to get into second hand).

I just thought of this thread when I was going through the latest Target flier this morning. They have a page with their jeans and are listing the different styles...ski ny, straight, slim amd MOM jeans. Yes, apparently mom jeans are legit style now...no longer just a joke. Yikes. So maybe skinny jeans aren't so bad....

That's what teens have been wearing for well over a year. It is just so unflattering.
