Rash and Amoxicillin...UPDATE

DD is on Amoxicillin. She has had 3 does so far. This morning she has a rash on her tummy and chest and a little on her back. Does this mean she is allergic?

Im gonna try to call the dr. this morning, but of course it presidents day and who knows if he is there.

UPDATE:

I took her in to the ped. office. He did say that i was a reaction to the amoxicillin and prescribed Zithromax for her. he also wants me to watch her cough because she might have to get an xray and a possible nebulizer. I hope it clears up soon. Thanks for the advice

Re: Rash and Amoxicillin...

I would call right away and if they dont answer call the service! I am allergic to amoxicillin and I got the rash when I was younger...it usually starts on the trunk of the body..the more severe the more it spreads.

BTW if you are allergic to amoxicillin you are usually also allergic to anything in the cef family as well (figured this one out with another rash)

Re: Rash and Amoxicillin...

DD had a hive like rash on her all over after we gave her amox last year. She only had about 3 days of it too.

She was also getting over her 3rd bout of roseola, so doc wasn't 100% sure, but she won't be getting it anytime soon.

Def call the doc!

Re: Rash and Amoxicillin...

Call right away. When I was at Ped last week with DS there was a little boy there with a rash. The Dr said only by looking at it could she tell if it was an allergy.

Re: Rash and Amoxicillin...

I'm allergic to amoxicillin and I developed a rash on my palms and feet when I had the reaction. Mine developed after a few days of being on it and it was considered a minor reaction. Now, I can't take anything in the penicillin family. I would take DD to the ped to get her checked out and don't give anymore of the anitbiotic.

Definitly call the doc. I'm allergic to all "cillian" meds and that's what I get if I have it also my face and mouth swells. My dd is allergic as well and she had a really bad reaction when she had taken it. The doc will probably switch her meds and tell you to give bendryl to stop the reaction.

Re: Rash and Amoxicillin...

I would call your doctor since you don't know what it is. However, the same thing happened to my son. He took amoxicillin and had this bumpy red rash everywhere. The pediatrician said it was amoxil rash and that he was allergic to penicillin, so now he has to take non-penicillin antibiotics (including "cef" meds, which he is not allergic to). The doctor said he would probably grow out of the allergy. Also, the rash itself is not dangerous and went away in one day with benadryl.

Chat Icon DS was just on a nebulizer for 10 days. It really cleared him up. He had bronchiolitis and RSV. The nebulizer worked really well, and did not take a large dose of medicine.
