Raynor Beach Park- kid friendly?
I see they have two playgrounds. Is one for younger kids? I know some places have one for toddlers and one for older kids.
TIA!!!!

Kelly, I live 2 seconds from there....
Its a beautiful park, but can get a bit hectic with lots of ins, outs, ups and downs...
Practically around the block from there is the Lake Ronkonkoma park that has 2 seperate playgrounds ( one for toddlers) ...That might be your better bet

Re: Raynor Beach Park- kid friendly?
I've been there quite a few times. There is a smaller one closer to the lake that is designed for younger kids. The bigger one by the bathrooms and tennis courts is very nice, but DC really should be fairly independent, since it's not easy to follow them through the gym. I just follow DC underneath the playset, and help them on and off the ladders and stuff.

Stacey - when you say Lake Ronkonkoma Park what do you mean?? Town of Brookhaven's website lists Lake Ronkonkoma as a beach, but not a park. On Ronkonkoma Avenue they list Walters Estate as a park. Is that what you mean?

No, its actually Lake Ronkonkoma County Park, James J Malloy memorial park....located on Smithtown Blvd./Lake Shore Road..
Let me find a linky....
http://www.co.suffolk.ny.us/departments/parks/Lake%20Ronkonkoma%20County%20Park.aspx
It was totally re-done, has seperate enclosed playgrounds for ages 2-5 and the other for ages 5-12...All rubber matting, picnic tables galore overlooking Lake Ronkonkoma, bar-b-ques ,bathrooms, a gazebo...Its a beautiful park...
I do believe there is a parking fee on week-ends for non-residents ( maybe $8) , but there is a road you could park on just outside of it if need be....

The only thing that I don't like about this park is that the gates are NEVER closed and even though there are 2 seperate areas the older kids never seem to stay in/on the older kid section.
DD has been knocked down quite a few times by older kids just running around like psychos in the toddler section.

Well, then I may just trip a few older kids myself.

You're too much
My DS loves it there so much, he's never made a run for the gate, so maybe I never noticed them being left open.

Re: Raynor Beach Park- kid friendly?
I have to be honest I HATE Raynor. I think there are a LOT of sketchy people hanging out here. Last time I was there, there was a crew of "moms" pregnant, smoking and there with their other kids. I had my son on the baby swing one pregnant smoking mom comes up with cig in mouth and puts her daughter on the swing and start blowing smoke at my son. Luckily my neighbor was there with me because it was not going to be a pretty sight!
There is actually a park at the lake on the Brookhaven side, harder to see from the road but it's there. All sand, so if that's a problem do not go there.
I agree with Bops I like the one on the other side of the lake better. They charge on weekends now though.
The Waltess park was just redone and sadly already has sexual grafftti all over it. Truly sad.
That's just my take on the whole park in Ronkonkoma thing. We go to the one by the lake or Waltess.

Re: Raynor Beach Park- kid friendly?
I get all the parks in Ronkonkoma confused but I think they are all pretty nice. I could use some lunch buddies in Ronkonkoma and sometimes even some dinner buddies .
ETA: I just read some of the other posts. The only thing that I have heard is that some of the parks have teenagers there at night drinking and hanging out but the cops are cracking down this summer. I assumed, even after hearing that, that these places would be fine during the day.

Re: Raynor Beach Park- kid friendly?
There's also Ronkonkoma Beach. It's on Rosevale, a block east of the end of Motor Pkwy. Tennis courts, small playground, beach. We go there mainly for the activities for DC at the clubhouse.

Re: Raynor Beach Park- kid friendly?
I live right by both of them and Lake Ronkonkoma Beach Park gets VERY crowded on the weekends. And I think you have to pay to get in.
