I would just replace all of the parts inside the tank. Everything combined is about $20 or so. Flushing mechanism, flapper, etc.
If it's just the flapper that is the problem, that's only $5 or so at HomeDepot. Five minute fix to replace it.

We had the same problem. We let them send us the new ring and haven't had a problem since - that was 3 years ago.
