RE appt no pressure..VENt
so the clomid this month made me have bad migraines. I went to see the RE and told him, so we wont be doing that again. On the up side I have 2 small follies so it was better than the one last month. So I go back next week and when he was leaving he says. " you have to get pregnant this month" or we need to talk about IVF.
No pressure, sure. It hit me when as soon as i get back to work I see an angelic baby. pulled my heart strings and then the dreaded question rears its ugly head.
Honestly I feel sorry for anyone else who asks me I am losing the filter and creative ways of answering this. My answer to her, " can you order me one?" I almost started tearing.
I really really need this to work this time. Im just getting tired, Im afraid that doing IVF is going to also trigger migraines and honestly Im not sure I can do it. Thanks for listening

Re: RE appt no pressure..VENt
I'm so sorry you had that experience with the Clomid. I'm not there (yet!) but I think a lot about the progression of these IF treatments and what my next steps are going to be. It is incredibly frustrating when friends/family/strangers just assume you don't have kids yet because you don't want them yet!!
Good luck this month!!

Re: RE appt no pressure..VENt
Is the reason why your doctor suggested IVF right away b/c you get migraines from Clomid??? That doesnt make sense. I took Clomid for three months and had no side effects........but went to a new doctor and he has put me on Fermara. Which does the same exact thing as Clomid....it doesnt affect the lining of the uterus like Clomid does (it thins it out over time). I beleive the side effects are also a lot milder than Clomid from what I was told anyway.
Can you ask your RE to prescribe you Femara (aka Letrizole) for next month and try that?.....(I hope I spelled that right)?

Re: RE appt no pressure..VENt
first - AND
Now - I did clomid one cycle with my OB, and had HORRIBLE headaches and hot flashes with it. When I started at my RE's I talked to him about it and "we" decided that Femara would be a better choice because of how I reacted to clomid and also because I have cysts on my ovaries to begin with, and clomid can aggravate them. With Femara (I've done 2 IUI cycles so far) I have had NO side effects, other then being really tired about 15 minutes after taking it.
While Femara isn't accepted by the FDA or by all RE's as a fertility medicine, it is becoming more popular as one. Maybe you can discuss it with your RE prior to "jumping" to IVF.
Good Luck !!!
ETA: If you do go on Femara- go the their WEBSITE and print the coupon for the free month. Bring to your RE & have them fill that out and give you a perscription for a 30 day supply. Take as the dr. directs you to (for 5 days usually - dosage varies) I did this and now have a 3 month supply for nothing. Of course you can only do this once, but hopefully I get a BFP before then !!

Re: RE appt no pressure..VENt
thanks for the . I dont know why we are jumping to IVF cause this will only be my 3rd IUI 2nd medicated. I can only guess that because of my age that hes suggesting to go directly to IVF. Im just scared that its going to mess with my hormones making me get those migraines. I just have to hope that this is my month and stay positive. Thanks for the Femara tip I am going to see the RE in the next couple of days so I will mention it to him. and for the coupon

Re: RE appt no pressure..VENt
I thought they usually recommend at least 3 medicated IUIs before moving on? Maybe your doc just didn't realize at the moment that one of yours was unmedicated? Remember, this is totally YOUR decision. Your doc can recommend it, but you have every right to choose not to do it right now.
Best of luck .. and hopefully this month works for you and you don't even have to worry about that!!!!

Re: RE appt no pressure..VENt
Did you try taking the clomid at night right before bed?
I just started my second round of clomid and i always took it before bed so i would sleep thru most of the side effects

Re: RE appt no pressure..VENt
Yes, do ask about the femara. I have suffered from awful migraines since I was in HS and didn't have any difficulties with Femara. One other tip, I went to see a neurologist before I started the meds and she gave me a prescrption for a pain killer that was safe to take, once in a while, when TTC. It may at least make you feel less tense about a headache coming on. I never actually used any of the pain killer, but it was helpful to know it was there if I needed it.

Re: RE appt no pressure..VENt
I hope that this is your month and you don't have to think about the what if's.
But if you do, what about IUI's with injectibles? That seems like the next logical step. If you have any questions, ask your RE about "ALL" possibilities.
Good luck
